Add custom monitor to MP
Hi all, A while ago a raised a question on this forum that was answered (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/operationsmanagergeneral/thread/ed26e94b-d4b1-4760-ad91-86e8e7adc1c9/). I've ever since tried to figure out how to achieve what was suggested by Kevin, but because I've not created a custom monitor type before using the Authoring Console, I'm stuck. Just to summarise what I'm trying to achieve is to harness a existing data source (Microsoft.MSMQ.2003.DataSource.Queue.Statistics.PerformanceRaw) in the MSMQ management pack (currently used for returning perf data) and create a threshold monitor based on a value returned. More specifically, if the total messages in a queue is more than x, then alert be returning the server name the queue resides on, the queue name and actual number of messages in queue at the time. Now I don't know if I need to use components inside the existing MSMQ management pack to try and create this or how to get this done as the authoring console is foreign to me. Can anyone perhaps walk me though the high level step on what needs to get done and then at least I know what to read up on? Or are there any guides on this type of thing available that you can point me to? Your assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks! AvdV

Hi there. If all you want is to count the total number of messages across all MSMQ's on a server, you could use a script. Check out the one that Idan Lerer wrote here. We use this as a time script and it works great. Hope this helps.Layne
