Allow Public Access To SharePoint Files
Hello! I am still learning a lot about SharePoint and it's full functionality. I have a question which hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. I have uploaded a excel file to sharepoint and have a URL so people can download that file. Whenever anyone clicks on that link, it prompts them to log in. Is there a way around this? I would like to send out the link in an email and have people download the excel file if they want to view it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They should for starters have the SharePoint site in their Trusted site list as that usually removes the need for a *second* login to open a document,
BUT
they will still need to login to access the site unless the site is anonymous access.
If they are in the Intranet when accessing they can avoid the need to login with their normal network name and password if their Login (in IE security for the security zone in which the site is in) is set to automatic login using current name and password. This won't work if they are not logged in to their PC using that local network name and password hence the restriction above.FAQ sites: (SP 2010) http://wssv4faq.mindsharp.com; (v3) http://wssv3faq.mindsharp.com and (WSS 2.0) http://wssv2faq.mindsharp.com
