CMTrace License?

Is there any licensing issue that would preclude my customer from placing CMTrace in the images that will be applied to all of their workstations and servers?

I thought we should ask the question before we go ahead and do

No. Cmtrace is free. It's predecessor Trace32 was a free download (part of the

also, cmtrace is a part of the 2012 R2 toolkit so you don't have to get it from the full SCCM install if you don't want to. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36213

There's a heck of a lot of good stuff in the toolkit. I don't think most people utilize all these tools that are there.

Correct - the CMTrace that ships with R2 is identical to the CMTrace that ships in the R2 toolkit (e.g. same exact binary).  The only difference between the two is the licensing.  The Toolkit license says:

1.    INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS. You may install and use any number of copies of the software on your devicesrunning validly licensed copies of Microsoft System Center 2012 or later.

So, you should be fine there, assuming you've got licensed ConfigMgr agents running on those systems.
