Can't deploy packages
My SCCM 2007 SP2 setup is a single site, all the roles are on one server.
I recently had the need to move my files to new drives. There were 3 drives in total (2 for SQL, and 1 for sourcefiles etc), that needed to be moved from one SAN to another SAN. So the new drives were added in, I shut the SCCM site
down, used robocopy to copy all the data to the 3 new drives, mapped the new drives with the same drive letter the old drives had, recreated the shares and then brought the SCCM site back online.
Everything seemed to be fine, but then I realized my deployments were not working. When I create a new advertisment, my files are copied from the "sourcefiles" share (where I put them) to the "SMSPKGG$" share where they are put into the folders named
after the site (ex: XXX000E1). But when I check the clients, they are all in a "waiting for content" state. From what I can see the files are there, I don't understand why the clients can't download them. When I used robocopy
to copy the files over, I set it to copy NTFS permissions as well. I did have to recreate the Share permissions manually, but documented it carefully.
When i look in event viewer on the SCCM server, I see a lot of 2302 and 2328 errors that lead me to think its a permission issue, but everything looks ok. I even compared NTFS permissions to the original drive and they are the same.
So unless I missed an important share permission...
Error ID 2302
SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER on computer <server> reported: SMS Distribution Manager failed to process package "Nov 2010 WCU" (package ID = XXX000E1).
Error ID 2328
SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER on computer <server> reported: SMS Distribution Manager failed to copy package "XXX000E1" from "G:\SourceFiles\WCU\Nov 2010\" to "MSWNET:["SMS_SITE=PHX"]\\<server>\SMSPKGG$\XXX000E1\".
Also, when i look in distmgr.log I see:
RDC:Failed to copy package signature file C:\SMSPKGSIG\XXX000E1.3.tar to
\\<server>\SMSSIG$\\XXX000E1.3.tar. Error 5 Cannot copy package XXX000E1 from G:\SourceFiles\WCU\Nov 2010\ to G:\SMSPKGG$\XXX000E1\, Win32 Error = 0
Failed to copy package XXX000E1 from G:\SourceFiles\WCU\Nov 2010\ to MSWNET:["SMS_SITE=XXX"]\\<server>\SMSPKGG$\XXX000E1\
It says it failed, but all the files have actually been copied to
\\<server>\SMSPKGG$\XXX000E1\
I'm somewhat new to SCCM, but I don't understand why the clients are not able to download these files, they look to be available from what I can tell....
Thanks
Jim

You may need to do a site repair. I'm not sure if it will help or not but it's probably a good starting point.

By looking at the following line, it seems like the signature files are not being copied to your DP properly.
Error 5 mean's access denied.
So please check the permissions on the \\<server>\SMSSIG$\ folder.
Makure that the signature files(*.tar ) gets copied to your distribution points SMSSIG$ share properly.
RDC:Failed to copy package signature file C:\SMSPKGSIG\XXX000E1.3.tar to
\\<server>\SMSSIG$\\XXX000E1.3.tar. Error 5Regards, Madan

Permissions look ok, I checked and the XXX000E1.3.tar file is sitting in the
\\<server>\SMSSIG$ folder.

Something else worth noting, any advertisements that were made prior to me moving the data to new drives still work, its only new ones that will not deploy.

I unshared the SMSPKGG and SMSSIG folders, waited about 10 seconds and apprently SCCM automatically re-shared them. Since then everything seems to be working ok. I have tested a few deployments and there are no errors, and the deployments
worked.....strange.
Thank you both for your offered assitance.
