Cannot activate Office SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure in Sharepoint 2007 Ent. Edition
Folks,I got everything setup for BI Integration on sharepoint and now I can't seem to activate the publishing on it. I've googled for this error and got to every link and the solutions are not helping me. All they're saying in the google links is that to activate publishing at the site collection level and then the site level activation should work. But it doesn't work for me. Any help from you experts will be great. The steps I followed:I got to the "Site Settings" of the main site collection page. Selected "Site Collection Features" under "Site Collection Administration" ( I see all features are enabled except "Office Sharepoint Server publishing infrastructure".)So I tried to enable it by clicking "Activate" and then I get the following error:"Publishing sites and features cannot be activated in the Central Administration Web Application. WebUrl: 'http://myserver:4786/sites/SiteCollection' So as this site collection is not enabled, obviously I can't activate this feature in any other sites under this. I tried the above steps on the main site too (http://myserver:4786) and I get the same error for the main site too"Publishing sites and features cannot be activated in the Central Administration Web Application. WebUrl: 'http://myserver:4786/' "A clean step by step solution would help. Thanks

Also, there is other way (not really great but works) One way to achieve this is to temporarily change the AppPool of the web application… 1. Open IIS Admin.2. Location the Web Site for your WSS web application.3. Goto to the properties and select the ‘Home Directory’ tab.4. Change the AppPool to be the same as Central Administration.5. IISRESET6. Activate the Publishing Infrastructure feature on your site.7. Change to AppPool back to the original.8. IISRESET. This should allow you to enable the feature and use the publishing features within MOSS.I LOVE MS..... Hi,Did you surely pick up the publishing template while creating the web application? or did you select other template like team site or workspace template etc?You need to select the correct template i.e. publishing inorder to get the publishing feature working.Hope this helps.

Thanks and Regards, Kshitiz (Posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.) I tried your suggestion. The funny thing is that the publishing seem to be activated now on main collections as well as the sites. But it still keeps complaining with the same error when I create the pages!! It's weird! I will try to restart the services and see if it makes any difference. Update: Well the restarting of services didn't help either. Although now publishing is running. Same error!
