Capture from VM
Good afternoon, I am attempting to capture a image from a VM through the vm player. (WinXP Image) What I have done so far: 1. Ran the x86 capture CD built from my sccm console on the VM. 2. Machine rebooted into PE environment but receives a memory error when attempting to save the image to the local drive. I have also tried to save the capture image to a external hard drive but it cannot seem to find the drive in the PE environment. Some may say "Why dont you capture from a task sequence". Well I find it easier to tweak the VM like removing games, windows movie maker, updates, etc...I had no problem capturing Windows 7 only XP. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hi, Just to make sure. How much memory does your VM XP have. As far as I recall it requires at least 512 MB. Best Regards.

Have you loaded all of the drivers required for XP into SCCM boot image you are using? Looking at your statement about not being able to see the External drive in WinPE I think this might be your problem. To see what drives WinPE sees, do this: Get a command window open, if you don't have one already open, try pressing F8. Type the following: 1) Diskpart then hit enter 2) List Disk then hit enter Take a look at the disks listed and try to figure out which one you need if any other than the CD is listed by looking at their sizes. To exit Diskpart type exit and hit enter. If you don't have the ability to open a command box, this is configured in your boot image on the Windows PE tab. Check the box marked "Enable command support (testing only)", rebuild your boot image and then rebuild your capture CD. I would recommend using a USB memory stick until you have this nailed as you will go through CD's like they are candy until its to your liking. Anything worth doing is worth doing right.

The problem has been fixed that you for all advice. My windows xp disk was setup as SCSI instead of IDE. The atteched drive I was aiming to copy to was taking the drive letter C: when WindowsPE would boot up so the actual OS could not copy. Thanks
