Capture windows xp sysprep failure
Good morning, I am having problems with sysprep. My capture windows xp task sequence is successful all the way to the point of running sysprep command failure on prepare os step. The error I am receiving on the Windows PE screen is: Error - 0x00000001 Here is my Log: <![LOG[LOGGING: Finalize process ID set to 1896]LOG]!><time="08:46:24.390+300" date="11-03-2010" component="OSDSetupHook" context="" type="1" thread="1900" file="tslogging.cpp:1489"> <![LOG[!sVolumeID.empty(), HRESULT=80004005 (e:\nts_sms_fre\sms\framework\tscore\resolvesource.cpp,467)]LOG]!><time="08:46:24.421+300" date="11-03-2010" component="OSDSetupHook" context="" type="0" thread="1900" file="resolvesource.cpp:467"> <![LOG[!sTSMDataPath.empty(), HRESULT=80070002 (e:\nts_sms_fre\sms\framework\tscore\resolvesource.cpp,1395)]LOG]!><time="08:46:24.421+300" date="11-03-2010" component="OSDSetupHook" context="" type="0" thread="1900" file="resolvesource.cpp:1395"> <![LOG[TS::Utility::GetTSMDataPath( sDataDir ), HRESULT=80070002 (e:\nts_sms_fre\sms\client\osdeployment\osdgina\osdsetuphook.cpp,174)]LOG]!><time="08:46:24.421+300" date="11-03-2010" component="OSDSetupHook" context="" type="0" thread="1900" file="osdsetuphook.cpp:174"> <![LOG[Failed to set log directory. When the task sequence failed i pressed F8 and browsed to the C: drive. I do not see the sysprep folder, what exactly copies that folder there from my package?

Niall I followed your Windows XP deployment guide but for some reason I think that my sysprep is wrong. Can you view my screenshots? I only have two items in the folder of sysprep the unattended and the sysprep.inf that doesnt seem right, dont I need the exe?

A handful of comments. Your sysprep package should contain all of the files from deploy.cab, not just sysprep.exe. Also make sure that you are using the sysprep that corresponds to your OS version. Each service pack level has its own sysprep distributed on the actual media (or available for download from Microsoft) that is not updated when you slipstream/integrate a service pack. Most of the info you have in your unattend.txt is redendant and should be specified using the properties of the tasks instead. The only non-redundant item is the tapi location setting. Instead of putting your unattend.txt in the sysprep package itself, create a separate package for it to create some separation and prevent weird things from possibly happening. The Apply OS task will properly handle "injecting" it into the process. Other info specified in other tasks, like the product key, will also be properly added to the unattend.txt file. You shouldn't join reference systems to a domain: many things happen when a system is joined to the domain many of which are not reversible.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/jsandys/default.aspx | Twitter @JasonSandys

Thank you so much, so what items should I keep in my unattended.txt if any at all? 1. Should I keep the unattended settings, and remove the "apply windows settings", and "network settings" task to relieve redundancy? 2. Or Should I clear the unattended file and leave it blank, and keep the two above task sequences? I have also seperated the packages "sysprep", and "unattended". Here is the configuration of my sysprep inf file. ;SetupMgrTag [Unattended] OemSkipEula=Yes InstallFilesPath=C:\sysprep\i386 [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword="REMOVED FOR PRIVACY" EncryptedAdminPassword=NO OEMSkipRegional=1 OemSkipWelcome=1 [UserData] ProductKey=REMOVED FOR PRIVARY FullName="Network Administrator" OrgName="REMOVED FOR PRIVACY" ComputerName=* [TapiLocation] AreaCode=919 [SetupMgr] DistFolder=C:\sysprep\i386 DistShare=windist [Identification] JoinWorkgroup=WORKGROUP [Networking] InstallDefaultComponents=Yes

The only lines I would keep in the unattend.txt are the following: [TapiLocation] AreaCode=919 Everything else will be populated by the task sequence. I've never actually tried removing those two tasks because I prefer automation over creating/editing the unattended files so I would recommned against it and just use the scaled down unattend.txt file.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/jsandys/default.aspx | Twitter @JasonSandys

Ok the task sequence has moved forward so I feel what you have given me has helped but it fails right at the end, it looks like the last two tasks in the sequence.
