Changing SharePoint Intranet URL
I currently have a Sharepoint intranet site with the following URL:http://dudley:2924/sites/intranet/Pages/Default.aspxI will like to change it to the following:http://sharepoint.scn.ca or even http://sharepoint.scn.ca/sites/intranet/Pages/Default.aspxscn.ca is our domain. What do I need to change in Alternate Access Mappings? Do I need to make any changes to DNS Management?

A problem I noticed is a couple of third party web parts I have are giving errors. They are:Web Part Error: A Web Part or Web Form Control on this Page cannot be displayed or imported. The type could not be found or it is not registered as safeandError executing child request for ChartImg.axd. If I switch back the Default zone to http://dudley:2924 everything is fine.Any ideas?

Going through the extend web application yielded the same results as AAM. I'm thinking too it's web.config related and will try Ivan's suggestion.

I've extended the web app and have the correct web.config tags in it (I copied the web.config from the default site) and the web parts are still displaying the errors. I thought extending the web app looked promising since it has its own virtual directory which AAM didn't provide I don't believe. I then thought I had to deploy the webpart (under Solution Management) to the extended web application I just created but the extended wen application does not appear in the drop down menu for me to deploy it. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If the alternate site is an FQDN http://sharepoint.scn.ca) you need to add it to the Local Intranet Sites in your security settings of IEIn IE go to Tools > Internet Options > Security > Local Intranet > Sites > Advanced > Add > Close >Ok >Ok....If you want this change to propagated to all users the create a GPO and link it to the domain...Cheers,-IvanIvan Sanders My LinkedIn Profile, My Blog, @iasanders.
