Classical provisioning in FIM
Hi,
Due to time constraints and the complexity of the new FIM way of provisioning (which we have been struggling with for weeks), we have decided to revert back to the old MIIS way of provisioning.
Could someone point us in the right direction on creating the provisioning code, dll's, etc.
is this a good place to start? http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=15032653-D78E-4D9D-9E48-6CF0AE0C369C&displaylang=en
do i need the entire visual studio...or is there something else that i can install to create provisioning rules..?
Thank you

I've dug up an old copy of what I think is from the same download ... a VB.Net 1.1 project called "MVExtensionStress" ... and I seem to recall something called the "MIIS Provisioning Helper" being available at some stage, but I couldn't find anything
with this name. It might actually be the same thing ... but regardless, the provisioning part of ILM/MIIS is really best learned by following the very good examples in the TechNet online doco here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms698364(VS.85).aspx ... and I'm afraid the answer to your other question is yes ... you're going to find the latest version of VS.Net is
the best way to go. There are command line compilers that you can get hold of, but it would be false economy to go down this path IMHO ;). There might be some value in re-compiling the downloaded sample solution, but I would suspect you'll end
up trying to "put square pegs in round holes" if you go down this path ... except perhaps to get a feel for this stuff.Bob Bradley, www.unifysolutions.net (FIMBob?)
