Client Not Installing
I have a fresh installation of SCCM 2007. I am using an account with full domain admin rights. I have collected 1500+ computers in my domain.
I have broken them down into smaller collections, but I am still unable to install the client.
I have tried installing from the management console. I have tried doing it manually, either using client.msi or ccmsetup.exe.
Here is part of a log from one of our servers:
<![LOG[Installation succeeded.]LOG]!><time="14:38:01.057+240" date="10-22-2008" component="ccmsetup" context="" type="1" thread="5504" file="msiutil.cpp:890"><![LOG[Successfully deleted the ccmsetup service]LOG]!><time="14:38:06.057+240" date="10-22-2008" component="ccmsetup" context="" type="1" thread="5504" file="ccmsetup.cpp:3431"><![LOG[A Fallback Status Point has not been specified. Even though it says the client has succeeded, it still does not appear with a YES in the management console.
I am looking for the best way to install clients on all of my computers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

We do support client installation using ccmsetup.exe, but not via client.msi directly.
If the client installation was ok as the log indicated, could you please make sure thatthe client can register with the site ok by looking at the ClientIDManagerStartup.log? If this log is clean, can you check to see whetherthe client cancommunicate with the site server fine by looking at the ccmexec.log on the client? If this log is also clean, could you to initiate an DDR sending from the client (Control Panel-Configuration Manager-Action tab-Select "Discovery Data Collection Cycle"-Click "Initiate Action"), then update and refresh the All Systems Colleciton on the Admin UI? If you see any error on the log that you look at, it would explain why the Admin UI does not show that the machine has a client. You can post error(s), if any, in those logs, we will try to help you to troubleshoot further.
Thanks,
Minh.

Wow, thanks for the info, it is much appreciated
From what I could tell the ClientIDManagerStartup.log looked ok. I did not the below in the ccmexec.log

If ClientIDManagerStartup.log is ok, could check the client UI on the Advanced tab to see whether the client can get a site code? From the ccmexec.log, your client has trouble to function well; thus, preventing the client fromcontact with the site server to send DDR,a repair is kicked off (The logs show that "Performance counter registrations are missing or corrupted. Repair required.Detected faulty configuration. Repair will be started in 5 minutes.") Can you check to see whetherafter the repair, the client works ok?

I have done several repairs, no luck. I have also tryed installing manually with no luck.
My client does show the correct Site code, but I still am unable to install the client on anything. I have the majority of my computers are Assinged to the correct site. But no matter what I do, they will not install the client.
I have even created a group policy to push out the ccmsetup.msi file, but that does not seem to be having any effect.
Here is the latest log info from ccmexec.log

The client is installed and working properly. It just isn't communicating with the MP correctly. Is WebDav setup in the IIS of the MP? Is thisa Native mode server?
Do you have a client on the MP. Does it communicate correctly. Run the MP test
http://sms2003/sms_mp/.sms_aut?MPLIST See if you see nothing (which is good) or an error from the client

This is a mixed mode server.
As for WebDav how do I tell if it is setup and working correctly. I can look at IIS for the MP and according to that it is installed and 'allowed'.
I have tried to install a client on the MP and have not had any luck, at least it does not show up in the SCCM or Control Panel.
If I try to run that test, it says the 'website cannot display the page'

Sounds like the MP is all messedup, which is why the client installs but doesn't communicate back that it is done. You might need to uninstall IIS and or the MP. Start with the MP. Since that is were your problem lies.

I only have a one SCCM server. When you say uninstall MP, do you mean uninstall SCCM and reinstall it? If not, is there a way to just uninstall the MP?
Thanks

You definitely do not need to uninstall ConfigMgr!
If you go to Site Settings, Site Systems, <your server>, right-click on the ConfigMgr Management Point Role, and delete it. (you might want to look at properties first, just so you know what you currently have). Monitor mpsetup.log to see it uninstall successfully. Then right-click on <your server> and add back the role; and monitor mpsetup.log again to see it install (hopefully successfully, or the log may tell you it's failing).

Ok, I removed and re-added the MP role. According to the log, it was successful.
Still no luck on the client install:

HOLD ON!
That may have been the ticket. I have my test computer registering as having a client installed. Let me test it out some more and I will let you know

I encountered this issue as well.
It turns out the Management Point wasn’t fully installed / installed properly.
In my MP_Setup log (Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Configuration Manager\Logs\MPSetup.log), I noticed it was unhappy with the webdav settings (“WebDAV
settings is not setup appropriately”). I verified the settings were correct, but then ran across this article:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/configurationmgr/archive/2010/10/26/error-the-webdav-server-extension-is-either-not-installed-or-not-configured-properly-in-configuration-manager-2007.aspx
Apparently the people who wrote the IIS UI were only half serious.
J
Adjusting the XML file directly, and then (re)installing the MP ultimately cleared up my client errors.
