Client Push Installation
Hi ,
I have installed SCCM a Windows 2003 Domain Controller in a VM machine and a WindowsXp added to SCCM domain which sits in VM as well. When I tried to push a client installation through SCCM its not happening. But I could see a folder copied in the client machine in system 32 folder ccm setup but could nt figure out why it has not got installed. But the client install was successful in DC which is showing Approved state but the client machines are not picking up the install due to some unknown reason. The folder is shared from the server and a domain admin account is used for validation. Please advise how do I proceed further,Thanks and Regardsnarin N

Hi,When using a client push installation you need to make sure that:1) the correct files are copied from the site server to the clients. to verify that check ccm.log on the site server2) the installation is starting with no problems on the clients. check ccmsetup.log on the clients (found in .\system32\ccmsetupOnce you have information from these log files you will be able to start troubleshooting what went wrong. You are more thant welcome to post part of the log files in this forum.Once you have the clients installed, make sure you have added the corect boundaries. Clients will be assigned to a site based on the boundary information.Kent Agerlund | http://scug.dk/members/Agerlund/default.aspx | The Danish community for System Center products

For Windows XP, the client requires a BITS update which itself requires a reboot; the client installation service stops after the BITS update thus effectively waiting for a reboot before finishing. Check the ccmsetup.log on the client for a definitive status.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/jsandys/default.aspx | Twitter @JasonSandys

Hi All,Thanks for your reply It has greatly helped me in settings the Windows terminals. All systems are online in the Configmgr console. But a few clarificationsAs dicsussed in my thread ,to re-capsulate I have Win2003 DC with 4 Windows Xp all in a Vm workstation. The Client push installation was successful in DC only and none of the client received the request nor got installed. So I installed .Net2.0,XML parser6.0 bits on one workstation. After sometime my first Windows XP showed as approved in my Configmanager. I have nt done any thing on the other Workstations and now everythingis showing as approved which is quite interesting. If this is the case which discovery method was the fastest as i have enabled all.Secondly why it took too much time for the clients to get approved on the server. Does it meant it downloaded any files from the internet apart from the location which i have provided.
Which details i should look for inside the CCMsetup.log fileI would like to attach the log file but it may takespace. Please advise.Regards

When you push, could you look at the ccm.log on the site server to see the push happen to that machine? For error in ccmsetup.log, you can post it here, I will try to see what the errors are.Thanks,Minh.Minh

I would gamble that the clients all installed just fine, and that ccmsetup will not reveal any real errors. What I suspect happened is clients got installed, registered with the sccm infrastructure just fine. They just didn't show up that way in the console.Collections by default only refresh once every day, so they would only show up after one day unless you had triggered a collection update AND refresh yourself."Everyone is an expert at something"
