Compare Sql Server 2008 Edition Features
My company is using SQL Server 2008 and we are they are in the process of setting up a development environment for the BI team. DBA's have suggested installing the Developer edition (to save on licensing fees). I found a link that compares features
between the Enterprise and Standard edition but nothing that compares to the Developer edition.
Can you please help me with the following questions:
1) Does deverloper edition offer less features than the Standard edition?
2) What is the difference between Developer and the other two editions? Better yet, do you have a link that can give me this info?
3) How do the limitiations of the Developer Edition impact BI projects development?
4) Can we encounter problems if we develop projects (ie. Cube, SSIS package) and then attempt to deploy it to an Enterprise environment.
THanks

Developer Edition offers all features found in Enterprise. The only thing to keep in mind is to only use the features available in the production version you are using (Enterprise / Standard, etc.)

You should not use Developer Edition on server. It's only for Development

As Developer edition is equivalent of Enterprise , you won't. But if you use Standarad edtion in prod then it will create trouble.
