I am operating Sharepoint 2007, and have set up a site that uses a content type and an associated MS Word template; the users therefore generate new documents from the 'New' button in the appropriate library. The resulting document is generated in MS Word 2007 but uses compatability mode because the users eventually have to issue the document to an organisation that still operates Office 2003 (I know, I know). The problem we are having is that when the end users (the 2003 operators) open the document that has been emailed to them, their system appears to look for the original template on our network. Clicking 'Cancel' a number of times makes the dialog box go away and the document operates normally, but it is annoying and time consuming. We have tried a number of variations to make this work better, but nothing fruitful so far. Any pearls of wisdom out there? Jimmy

Hi Jimmy, From your description, I learned that you used the SharePoint 2007 and uploaded a custom Word 2007 document template (Compatibility Mode) in “New”, and emailed the document (generated by “New”) to the end user who were using Word 2003, and when they opened the document, there appeared a dialog looking for original template on your network, after clicking “cancel” many times, the box was gone and the document operated normally. I tried to reproduce this issue, however everything worked as expected (My environment: SharePoint 2007+Word 2007; Windows 7+Word 2003). Could you please provide more information. Could tell me that the document in the email was as link, or attachment? (I tested it as a link of document in email. The link was: http://<server>/<site>/customDocumentLibrary/myDocument.doc ) What was the dialogue box which was looking for the template on site? (when click the link above, I saw a dialogue “File Download” with 3 buttons ”Open”, ”Save”, ”Cancel”) Was the document opened in browser, or with client Word 2003? (My document was displayed in browser directly when clicked “Open”, and the URL was: http://<server>/<site>/customDocumentLibrary/myDocument.doc ) Thanks, Daniel
