Config Manager R2 Unknown Computer Support
Hi There FolksPerhaps one of you can point me in the right direction, I have been anticipating the R2 release of config manager for the pure and simple use of unknown computer support. So i got R2 installed, and I have enabled unknown computer support in my pxe server role.No matter how hard I try config manager will not respond to that computer, I also know that you should make the TS advertisement mandatory but not even that works. smspxe.log shows that there is no advertisement in DB for that device and that there is no boot action for that device. As soon as I add the computer through the computer association tab to the collection I have my TS advertised, it picks it up and and my TS continues...Any ideas? I know that the mechanism to deploy operating systems work because I can deploy fine provided that i added the mac address to the sccm database. RegardsPhil

HI,
I know thw post is old but if anyone wonders on this post folowing data should be helpful.
If computer was controlled by SCCM in any time, it is considered as known computer. I your case that is why the TS is not advertised to that computer. Run search through SCCM database for network card MAC address. You will most probably find the computer
with that address already asociated to SCCM. Solution delete obsolete record from sccm wait one hour for autonmatic refresh of service or restart windows deployment service. Second solution is to move(add) that computer object to collection where TS
is advertised.
Short tips:
All advertisements below are not mandatory and can be chosen from a list in Windowas PE.
Advertise the task sequence to all unkonw computers to cover computers that are for the first time intraduced to your SCCM network.
Advertise the task sequencw to "OSD Deploy collection" (query fo your choice) to cover the computers that are already known to SCCM.
- to make advertisement unvisable to runing operating system make it only deployable to operating system that is not used in company (windows 2000?) you can stil run it from WinPE
