Connecting to VM console outside of domain

I've found that with App Controller SP1, anytime I try to connect to a console outside the domain through the web interface that I just get a blank screen. This would be from a non-domain machine, connecting to the web interface with my domain credentials.

When connecting locally on the server or from another domain member, I'm able to logon and get the console just fine.

Any ideas?

Hello RichL_PLA,

I think i get the reason. You are trying to remote console to a Remote Machine that located in a domain joined VMM server from a non-domain machine.

But your local system administrator does not allow the use of default credential to log on to that computer. You need to provide a new credential used in the SCVMM server.

After you click Console in App controller. Please input the domain\administrator account to connect the VMM server.

The next step is that you need to install the Certificate issued from the VMM server to you localmachine->TrustedRoot Certificate Auth.. This will finally establish the trust between your local machine and the remote VMM server.

Finally. You can see that the Remote machine is successfully consoled. Good luck.

Hope this helpful!

Also make sure that the DNS name of the machine you are connecting to can be resolved from the machine you are connecting from.

Just something that caught me out first time I tried this.

Put simply, the console tries to connect from the local machine to the target machine direct using its FQDN. e.g. machinename.domainname.com

If you are not on the same domain you may not be able to resolve this without forwarding rules or hacking around in the hosts file.
