Content Routing in hiearchy
I have a SCCM 2012 SP1 CU3 "example" environment containing:
- primary site in Europe (DP is not actively used)
- secondary sites in Europe, US and Asia (DP's are used)
- 10 DP's in Europe, 10 DP's in US and 10 DP's in Asia
What I want is:
- Packages are created at primary and distributed to all DP's. I want to be sure that the content of the packages first go to the DP's at the secondary sites and AFTER that being distributed from the secondaries to the DP's.
- Also the DP's in Asia may only get the content from the Asia secondary site DP.
- Also the DP's in Europe may only get the content from the Europe secondary site DP.
- Also the DP's in US may only get the content from the US secondary site DP.
How will I ensure that this flow will be followed ?

Are the DPs in the various locations part of the secondary sites or the primary? If they are part of the secondary sites, then what you've described is exactly what happens.

You install the DP role on additional site systems within the secondary site.

I thought it is different now and not as in SCCM 2007.
Currently my 60 SCCM 2007 DP's are shared with my SCCM 2012 environment and I will migrate them to SCCM 2012 DP's soon. Hopefully that worked out well :-)
After that i need to assign them to a secondary if possible ????
Hopefully I can because it is not an option to distribute the data again accross those small lines...

No, you cannot reassign DPs to secondary sites and no, content flow is no different in 2012. The difference in 2012 is more of a desire to not use secondary sites.
You could use PullDPs and eliminate your secondary sites. It's impossible to make actual recommendations without knowing all the details of your network though.

Jason is right: such a design cannot be made without knowing all details about the environment, but it looks like a good scenario for pull DPs.

I will try to complete my case with some more information.
I have about 12000 clients. 4000 in Asia, 4000 in US and 4000 in Europe. They are managed form a primary located in Europe with lines to US and Asia. Currently all is configured and connected in SCCM 2007 and it will be migrated to SCCM 2012.
In 2012 we decide to use secondaries at the main region locations which also function as the MP for that regions (4000 clients). The MP traffic is then throttled to the primary.
Within a region we do have 10 DP's now in SCCm 2007 which are currectly shared with SCCM 2012. That works fine. But we also want to migrate those DP's to become SCCM 2012 DP's and we want te ensure that package traffic flow is minimized. So we want to send
packages from primary to secondary an dthen to the DP's.
We also do not want to reinstall the DP's since they have about 300GB of data and the lines are small. So what is the best way to go for ? migrate the DP's to SCCm 2012 DP's will assign the DP's to the primary i guess. Then we send e.g. 10 times a package
to US and that is not what we want. Could I change the DP to a Pull-DP with remaining the data on it ? Could I change the traffic flow of a DP to be change from primary to secondary ?
Hopefully you guys can clear some thing for me....

Your design seems sound but there's no way to reassign the DPs to the secondary sites. You will have to reinstall the DPs or use new systems. To avoid having to resend content over the WAN, you can simply used prestaged content exported from the current
to DP and reimport on the new DP though:

Thanks for the info, but hereby just a thought of mine...
When I have a SCCM 2007 DP (assigned to a SCCM 2007 secondary) migrated to SCCM 2012, it is connected to the SCCM 2012 primary I guess.
Will it be possible to create locally some prestaged content, remove the DP, create a DP assigned to a SCCM 2012 secondary and then put the prestaged content back ?
By that I don't need to copy the 300GB accros my slow links.
Will that be possible ?

You can select the source DP for the Prestaged content and the destination as well.
That could work but i think that maybe you should install the console on the remote location (another Workstation or server).
I think that if you are in site A and prestaging content from site B to site B it will go through your own computer in site A as it is the one running the command but someone else will have a better answer than me i guess.

Another thought......when 2007 DP's are migrated to 2012 DP's will it be possible to change the migrfated 2012 DP to a pull DP and then point to pull the content from my SCCm 2012 secondary site.
If that is possible that is way to go for me..

That is possible in case you are using at least SCCM 2012 SP1.
during DP migration you will be asked about Pull DP.

No, the upstream DP must be part of the same site as the downstream PullDP.

Configuration Manager 2007 Distribution Points can be either attached to System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Primary Site or System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Secondary Sites. However, the Distribution Point cannot be moved after migration to a
different site without uninstalling and reinstalling Distribution Point role. Is that true ? Does anyone had experience and can confirm this ?
