Hi,We have an existing application developed in Documentum platform. It does not have any major functionalities of Documentum like workflow, audit trial and so. This application is mainly used to store the electronic documents in specific folder/sub folder structure. Type of documents stored are pdf, word & text files. The total size of docbase is around 250GB.documentum We are working on to migrate the existing application from Documentum to Office SharePoint server 2007 platform. The plan is to build the new application in MOSS 2007 to provide the same functionalities of documentum application and discontinue theold application. The challenge here is migrating the existing content from documentum to new sharepoint site. In Documentum actual data is being stored in DocBase (file system)and associated meta data is stored in Oracle DB. So, how to migrate the content (250GB of size)from to the new sharepoint document library. If any of you had done migration in similar lines, It would be really helpful if you can share themigration approach or any 3rd party tools Note: when i googled i found 3rd party product Tzunami has some tool to migrate the content into SharePoint. Hi Arul, I don't know much about Documentum and I have never used the Tzunami tool. I am afraid I cannot provide more information about that. I noticed EMC had released a product called Documentum Content Services for SharePoint (http://www.emc.com/products/detail/software/content-services-sharepoint.htm). Here is a brief introduction: EMC Documentum Content Services for SharePoint provides direct access to the EMC Documentum Content Server natively through the Microsoft SharePoint interface. With Content Services for SharePoint, you can leverage the SharePoint user interface as an alternative client to the EMC Documentum repository, where your enterprise content is securely stored. Youll also leverage document lifecycles, business process management, rapid capture of images and scanned documents, and automatic classification within your familiar SharePoint environment I think it is a less risk solution than migrate all the content to SharePoint. You could investigate the product first. As there is no known solution to migrate the content from Documentum to SharePoint. I would introduce a general solution to you. 1. Plan content types for the documents in Documentum. 2. Develop a custom solution to migrate the document to SharePoint. 3. Develop a custom solution to migrate the document properties (Meta information)to SharePoint. Arul,At a high-level there are two parts to it, One is the data-migration and the other is the application-migration. At present there is no tool in the world that migrates your core application-logic (like workflow, rules etc) from other platform to sharepoint. You need to re-develop them freshly at the sharepoint site. Coming to data-migration, there are some 3'rd party tools avaialbe to migrate data from other platforms to sharepoint. You need to priortize whether you need to migrate all of the 250 GB content or you can reduce that size. The licensing model of these 3'rd party migration tools is bit tricky. I'd say data-migration is the big part in this excercise, compared to the application migration.If you've expertise in the object modle of Documentum and J2EE in our organization, you can even write a tool by yourself to migrate the data to the target platformSundar Narasiman

Building the new application in SharePoint simillar to Documentum and migrating the existing content to the new platform.We are trying to evaluate some products for this exercise to see if that would be of any help in terms of content migration.In the mean time, I am looking for simillar case study if any.Thanks,Arul

We did the migration using Tzunami. It is pretty comfortable to work with it once you have expored it.
