Copying a SharePoint site
I am attempting to copy a SharePoint site with an intensive amount of custom workflows, libraries, and lists to a different location in the site collection (one level up in the site collection hierarchy). I tried to accomplish this by copying the site through Site Administration - Content and Structure, however, this created new IDs for all of the lists breaking all of the workflows and XSL dataviews. I attempted to create a web package by exporting the site in SharePoint Designer, but I received the following error when trying to save the package: "Web package creating (...) failed. This could be due to network problems or other external changes to the source web site." It is important that the integrity of the workflows, lists, libraries, web part pages, and general site structure be maintained. It is not important that the site permissions and data contained in the lists and libraries be maintained. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Ben, I was going to suggest the same as Ivan, but the upwards momentum is what is going to provide complicated as far as I can see. Can I ask how your workflows were designed, via Visual Studio, or in SharePoint Designer? The only options I can think of, other than Ivan's suggestions are: - 1 - STSADM back-up and restore, which will allow you to move the site, complete with all ID's wherever you want too. Please note that it can't be moved elsewhere on the same farm if the original still exists, due to ID conflicts. Please also note that this method doesn't preserve the status of an item that's mid workflow. So, if you do use this method, ensure that ALL items are either fully processed, or not started. 2 - The codeplex content deployment wizard might be of some use, although I've not tested it.
