Creation of additional sharepoint instances and URL
An indiviudal server can only be part of one SharePoint Farm, so there is no such thing as creating a seperate SahrePoint instance on Small Business Server. However, you should be able to create a second Web Application in SharePoint Central Administration. For more information on managing SharePoint Foundation take a look at the following web site. http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/en-us/product/Related-Technologies/Pages/SharePoint-Foundation.aspxPaul Stork SharePoint Server MVP Senior Solutions Architect: BlueChip Consulting Group Blog: http://dontpapanic.com/blog Twitter: Follow @pstork Please remember to mark your question as "answered" if this solves your problem.

You should be able to create a second web application by going to the Central Admin Web site for SharePoint Foundation. You won't be able to create one using the regular SBS tools, you have to use the regular SharePoint tools. There should be a way to make the second web app available to the outside, but you'll either have to use a different URL name or a custom port number. If you use the custom port number there is no way to avoid including that when accessing the site. Although it should be possible it won't be easy. SBS is designed to provide one external facing site by default. There is no provision for adding a second so you'll have to start editng things in the Windows Server environment behind SBS. I don't recommend trying that. It will be more difficult than doing it on a regular server because of the added management layer that SBS adds. Also the changes you make may actually interfere with the normal SBS administration. SBS is designed to provide an easy administrative interface, but the cost is lack of flexibility and expansion. Everything is fine as long as you stay within the parameters SBS is designed around. Adding a second web app will move you beyond those parameters.Paul Stork SharePoint Server MVP Senior Solutions Architect: BlueChip Consulting Group Blog: http://dontpapanic.com/blog Twitter: Follow @pstork Please remember to mark your question as "answered" if this solves your problem.

Yes, I wanted to create a second Web Application, and I could find how to do it. However, I still have a question. The Remote Web Access can be reached from the Internet using the URL intranet.mycompany.com The second (new) application can be reached from the Internet using the URL intranet.mycompany.com:1111 How is it possible to define an external URL (for example extranet.mycompany.com) and redirect it to intranet.mycompany.com:1111 ? I would like to avoid to mention the port number at the end of the URL, but as the RWA and the new app have the same IP... I don't know to this can be done.

Hello, I have a very basic knowledge of Sharepoint, and a customer asked me to create a second instance. Background : - SBS 2011 - Remote Web Access working fine (files and mail) on intranet.company.com Questions : - Can I create an additional sharepoint on the same server, with different URL in the same domain (extranet.company.com) ? - How can I do that ? - How can I secure it (Read Only for external users) ? - Do I need to create additional users (for external visitors, with authentication), using CAL and mailbox ? - Is there a risk to interfere with existing Remote Web Access (deletion ?) ? Thanks in advance for your help.
