Custom Permission level not working properly
Hi All,
[WSS3]
I've created a new permission level for users to be able to contribute without deletion.
I've copied everything from the OOTB contributer permission level and unchecked the Delete items option.
When a user (who has the new permisson level) tried to chagne a property of the filename, he got an access denied page. It was solved only when I checked the Delete Item option in the new permission level (before that I've checled all options available but
teh Delete item one).
Any thoughts on this strange behavior?
Thanks a lot in advance

HI,
From your description it seems that your is getting permissions from more than one group and causing this issue.
I suggest you to check the effective permissions of the user by checking every group.
I hope this will help you out.
Thanks,

Hi,
According to your description, in my opinion, if you unchecked that option you saw that a lot options disappeared
in the Site Settings page for users who have Full Control and this was the desired case in our environment. Unfortunately a lot of unexpected errors occurred because of the removal of permissions. Not only the permissions were removed from the users but also
from the service accounts on which SharePoint runs. So the conclusion was to enable it again to maintain functionality and just have to deal with less strictly managed sites. I suggest that you should open the sitesettings.xml (\12\TEMPLATE\FEATURES\SiteSettings)
and modify RequireSiteAdministrator=”TRUE”.
Please have a try.
Best Regards
David Hu

Thanks you two.
I just realized that if I uncheck the Deleted Items permissions and then try to rename a file name, what really happens is that the file does shft to a delete and create by that operation and that's why I get Access Denied.
