Data Warehouse issue?
Hi,
We have 1 RMS, 1 MS & 250 Agent Managed Servers - OpsMgr 2007 R2 CU3
The MS is constant in a Critical State
on the basis of the following Alerts:
Alert: Event data collection process unable to write data to the Data Warehouse
Alert: Performance data collection process unable to write data to the Data Warehouse
Both Alerts have approximately the same Alert Description:
Performance data collection process unable to write data to the Data Warehouse. Failed to store data in the Data Warehouse. The operation will be retried.
Exception 'SqlException': Management Group with id '17452529-39AA-42D0-355F-917EE7D8E197' is not allowed to access Data Warehouse under login 'OSLHMOD1\scomaction'
It it seems to be a problem with 'OSLHMOD1\scomaction' user ...? How can I solve this?
Please advice.

Hi
You can download a security matrix from here:
http://www.microsoftpartnercommunity.co.uk/groups/operations_manager_2007/blog/archive/2009/09/09/ops-mgr-security-matrix.aspx
Check that the specified account has the correct permissions on the Data Warehouse.
Cheers

Hi,
It does not seem that this has anything to do with security.
I've given the user as much rights as possible on the OperationsManagerDW DB, but the problem still exists.
Any other suggestions?

Hi
The error seems quite specifically about security - "Exception 'SqlException': Management Group with id '17452529-39AA-42D0-355F-917EE7D8E197' is not allowed to access Data Warehouse under login 'OSLHMOD1\scomaction'"
I appreciate errors are sometimes misleading but what precise permissions does 'OSLHMOD1\scomaction'" specifically have on:
- the OperationsManagerDW database?
- the SQL Server hosting the OperationsManagerDW database?
The error also states - Management Group with id '17452529-39AA-42D0-355F-917EE7D8E197'
If you run the following, how many management groups are listed?
Is the name correct?
Use OperationsManagerDW
Go
Select * from ManagementGroup
Cheers
Graham

Hi Graham,
And thank's for a swift reply.
The user is db_owner and local administrator on the server.
The query returns only one MG and the name is correct.

Have you changed Data Warehouse Action Account just before these events showed up? If so, you also need to change the 'WriterLoginName' field in the dbo.ManagementGroup table in the DW to match your new DW Action Account...Vitaly Filimonov [MSFT]

Hi,
In addition, I would like to suggest you check the settings of the related action accounts and profiles referring to the following Knowledge Base article:
Event ID 2115 is logged, and a management server generates an "unable to write data to the Data Warehouse" alert in System Center Operations Manager
2007
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;945946
Hope this helps.
Thanks.

Hi,
As far as I know Data Warehouse Action Account has not been changes.
It does not seems that this KB applies to OpsMgr 2007 R2, because it looks very different in relation to how it is described in the article.
Administration -> Run As Configuration -> Profiles
Double Click on Data Warehouse Account and the Run As Profile Wizard starts..
Introduction -> General Properties -> Run As Accounts
And the only Run As account present is the RMS
Account Name: Data Warehouse Action Account Association: System Used For: Management Server Class: Health Service Path: <RMS FQDN>
Do I add the Management Servere that generates the alert here, and how is the correct way to do it?

Do you see that your server (the one generating events/alerts) is not listed in the Run-As Accouts tab of the DW Account? If so, that would force that server to use default action account instead of DW action account and that may not match the record in
DW for the corresponding management group...Vitaly Filimonov [MSFT]

Hi,
I can't see the MS that generats the alerts under Run As accounts, only the RMS.
So if I add the MS, is this correct?
Account Name: Data Warehouse Action Account Association: Object Used For:
Management Server Class: Health Service Path:
<MS FQDN>
And I must do same procedure for Data Warehouse Configuration Synchronization Reader Account,
Data Warehouse Report Deployment Account and Data Warehouse SQL Server Authentication Account
also?
