Datasheet view lookup column issue
When a column that has a lookup is empty in datasheet view and I attempt to update a different column I get this message: the text entered for isn't an item from the list. select an item from the list, or enter text that matches one of the listed items.
I found this hotfix, but it did not apply.

Any ideas how to get this resolved?

Hello,
How come the hotfix didn't apply? Are you running Office 2007 on your machine? If so what did it say when you tried to install it?
Thanks,

Hello, I am also experiencing this problem. Custom list lookup fields in datasheet edit view prompt for entry with "Windows Internet Explorer" error message "the text entered isn't an item from the list. Select an item from the list, or enter text that matches
one of the listed items."
Fields are NOT flagged as required.
Datasheet View: Fields do not display data. Clicking ok on error then pressing delete permits record to save. However browsing SP list using Access field will show a 0 in each field when field should actually be null.
Standard View: fields do not display data. Editing record through the edit button permits record update with no errors. Browsing SP list using Access still shows a 0 in the field. Attempting to edit record in Access without clearing the 0 from the field errors
out with message "You cannot record your changes because a value you entered violates the settings defined for field
fieldname (for example, a value is less than the minimum or greater than the maximum). Correct the error and try again."
Vista Enterprise edition
IE version:7.0.602.18005CO
Office 2007 sp2 mso 12.0.6535.5002
Attempted hotfix 948952: not applied. message="Hotfix for Office (KB948952)" "the expected version of the product was not found on the system"
In summary: SharePoint places a 0 or does not clear a 0 from a custom list lookup field when the user clears data from the field or selects (none) from the drop down list.

hi - This issue has been driving me crazy. Especially because it just started to happen. I was making updates in the datasheet view without issue, then all of a sudden I cannot. Did you ever find an answer to this aside from recreating the list?

I would love to hear a solution if anyone has it. Just like Valerie, I don't remember this happening in the past, but it does now and despite looking through lots of forums I haven't found an answer.

Anyone found the answer yet? We have found it happens on clients with Windows 7 Professional and Office 2010. Datasheet mode only. No issue on Windows 7 and Office 2007.
