Deleting a static matrix row
This seems like it should be extremely obvious. I don't know if I'm just going insane or what...
If I add a matrix to my report and then right click a "data cell",I can add columns and rows. I go ahead and add however many columns and rows I want. Now I want to delete one of the rows I just added, how do I do that?
I have tried highling the entire row, but it doesn't allow me to delete it. If I select just one cell and click delete, it deletes the column and not the row. I can just use the "undo" command right after I create it, but if I have already done numerous other things to the report, it removes all of that first.
I must be missing something very obvious here.

Well I thought this would be a very easy question and that I was just missing something extremely obvious... Is it really as hard as I think it is or possibleto delete a single staticrow from a matrix?

I'm having the same problem. When you go to 'Matrix Properties', 'Groups' tab, there is an entry called '[Static Group]', but you cannot delete it as the 'Delete' button is disabled.

Found the Solution:
When you add a static row, it creates a staic row and a new value field in the right hand part of the report. You need to delet this value field first and then you can delete the column representing the new Row
Its not exactly clear and is not explained in the help

Hi All,
I agree this shouldn't be that diffecult, so I reproduced the problem and started looking for a solution. I figured out that this is something you can do to solve this:
When in reportlayout, open the document-outline window (Ctrl-Alt-T) Cllick on the upper (or left-) most cell in the column or row you absuviley added and want to delete now
The cell is automatically selected in the document-outline window Go to the selected cell in the document-outline window, give right-click and choose delete from popip. The unwanted row/column will be deleted from the report-layout.
HTH
Kind Regards, Cees

Ok, forgot to ask/tell, what version are you using. The solution I proposed is for 2005. I'll try and have a look in 2008 as well.

Seems like the Document Outline solution is only required for 2008 and not foor 2005.
In 2008 it's easier to delete unabusively added columns or rows. On the datagrid, simply select the first cell of the unwanted row/column and via right-click select delete row/column.
Are you sure you selected the right cell on the grid before you deleted it from the document-layout ?

OK, maybe I gave an answer to a question you did not ask. What exactly do you guys mean with:
"When you add a static row, it creates a staic row and a new value field in the right hand part of the report." Especially what do you mean with static ? What do I have to do to create such a row ?

in the MAtrix SSRS 2005 ,
when you Rigth Click on Row, Click on Add Row,
Then it will add additional Row right next to the existing Row.
And when you Right click on Matrix Property, go to Group, you will see [Static Group] in the Rows.
But, it disable Delete option for that Static Group.
let me know.

Ok, I see.
I added a row just like you, and indeed see [Static Group] in the Rows and I cannot delete it as it has been disabled. However if I want to get rid of th row I added just before, I simply go to the datagrid and give a rightclick on the first
cell in the row to be deleted and select delete from the popup or follow the steps from one of my previous posts. Once the row has been deleted, I can go back to Group and still see [Static Group] in the Rows.
However, allthough it's there I see that it doesn't hram my report when I open in preview mode. So, it's there but without any consequences. If you really want to get rid of this meaningless static group, you might consider to modify the xml directly (via
view code), but I would not do that.
HTH,
got to go now, i'll follow up tomorrow (if still required)
Cees

I want to thank you for posting the suggestions. I had 2 static rows and 1 detail row showing under Advanced Mode. However there were only 2 rows in the Tablix. I finally ended up removing the 2nd static row from the XML and my header
problem was solved.
How?
In XML, it showed under <TablixRowHierarchy> <TablixMembers> an extra layer of <TablixMembers> for 1 of the members. So I removed the extra layer.

Brilliant! Searched all over the internet broke my head for half a day before coming upon this post! Even those who've worked with SSRS for a while (such as myself) can tend to forget that there is a layer of raw xml code underneath the pretty GUI that
can always be manipulated - when the GUI seems to hit a dead end like it does in the (static) tablix member situation. Thanks again!
