Deploy Custom Lists
Hi,
I have custom lists created in WSS 3.0 and also workflows created using Sharepoint designer 2007. I need to deploy this into production. I am new to sharepoint and I need some help in doing so.
What would be the best method for deployment? We did not use VS2005 / VS2008. I guess the deployment also should not use that.

Your first question answer is Save list as Template from list settings and restore that list template on production server. To deploy Sharepoint Designer workflows i think you don't have any options other than content deployment.

Workflows created within SPD are typically deployed to specific site collections as they can't be packaged and deployed once created. As such, this means that you'll need to recreate the workflow for each site you want to use it.
For custom lists, the best way is to create an installation package that adds your lists as a site (collection) feature. I'm assuming as you're deploying to WSS that you've not created any custom content types?http://www.final-exodus.net

Thanks Sandip. But how will I restore that on the production server? Can you please explain it more specific?

But I should not use any installation package. And I have not created any custom content type. Is it not possible to create a personal web package using SPD 2007 and deploy it in the target server? Actually I tried that option, but that was not working....

I think if you make a template work flow will also be attached with it.But once created your site you have to just start the work flow again using DesignerDestin - MCTS SharePoint Application Development 2010,2007
