Document Archiving in MOSS 2007
Hi, I would like to know whether MOSS 2007 provides Document Archiving. Thanks.

From a general standpoint, the answer to your question is yes, it does provide some options for you for Document Archival. The exact mechanics will depend upon what exactly you're looking for. If you want to maintain versions of a document as it is modified, this is available with a little configuration in the document libraries you want to set it up in. Simply open the settings for your document library and click the "Versioning Settings" in the General Settings section. In the next page you can select and configure your desired versioning settings, then click OK to apply them to the document library. If you're looking for something more along the lines of archival, for example moving documents from one library to another after a certain period of time, this is definitely doable but will take some effort to configure. More than likely, you'll need to create and apply a custom workflow to your document libraries to make this happen. Support for workflows like this built right into MOSS, but it will take some work in Visual Studio 2005 or SharePoint Designer in order to create the workflow for your environment. I did some digging, and it looks like Mike Gannotti has done a series of video screencasts, one of which covers how to set this up in MOSS. I couldn't get the video to load on my workstation, but it may be worth your while to look at them to see if they describe what you're looking for: http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/blogs/mikeg/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=697 There might also be some third-party solutions out there that you could implement to easily add this into MOSS, but off the top of my head I am not aware of any.Hope this helps,John

The post was in 2007 so this is an unreasonable request. I'm locking the thread which *in 2007* was closed (with - at that time - a valid link) ModeratorSP 2010 "FAQ" (mainly useful links): http://wssv4faq.mindsharp.com/default.aspx WSS3/MOSS FAQ (FAQ and Links) http://wssv3faq.mindsharp.com/default.aspx Both also have links to extensive book lists and to (free) on-line chapters
