Dual ReportServers deployment on a Workgroup
Hi,
We have 2 servers WS1 & WS2 on a windows Workgroup.
Each server hosts a ReportServer instance and the ReportsServers reference the same ReportServer Database on another server SQL01.
This setup requires a parallel deployment available through the ReportingService configuration tool.
However it seems mandatory to use a service account Domain/login to make this work and with a workgroup the only accounts available are local as WS01\User.
Do you know any workaround which could make it work without implementing a Windows Domain for those 2 servers?
Best regards,
F. and teamF.

Hi FlorianPasquier,
I am trying to involve someone to create this special workgroup environment to have a further look at this issue. There might be some time
delay. Appreciate your patience.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Regards,

Hi Challen,
Because we are experiencing this issue on a production environnement your feedback is required to decide which infrastructure shall be implemented. The cost of implmenting a domain controller on a "high availability" env. isn't neutral so your advice is
decisive.
Could you kindly give me a time frame (days, week, month) for providing us an answer to this topic?
With best regards,
Florian and teamF.

Hello,
It seems, you are in a scale-out deployment scenario in a workgroup environment. Can you please confirm the SSRS Edition (with the version information) that is being used?
You may find this information, in the Reporting Services Log file.
Thanks.

Hi,
Do you think possible to have pieces of information about this topic soon. Indeed we are waiting for it to take a strategical infrascture decision and unfortunatelly this can not be postponed that long.
We would really appreciate if you could give us some feedback soon.
Otherwise others users would probably have interest over this particular case!!
Many thanks,
Florian and team.

Hello,
I was requesting the Edition information, as, based on the following MSDN article, the scale-out deployment is not supported on the workgroup edition:
Planning for Scale-Out Deployment
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb630407.aspx
Requirement
Description
Edition requirements
Scale-out deployment is supported in the following editions: Enterprise, Developer, and Evaluation.
Standard, Workgroup, and Express editions do not support a scale-out deployment.
In any case, did you try creating the same user, on both machines (WS01\User and WS02\User)? I do not have a repro scenario but I have seen in the past that having the same user in both machines, in a client server scenario (WS01 as client and WS02 as server),
would allow accesses in both machines for this user.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.

Hi,
Using the same user on both servers, and applying the strictly identical encryption key, the scale-out deplyment
does work fine apparently.
Many thank for your advice.
