Wildcard searches are already possible in SharePoint 2010 if you add the asterisk character.

Alternatively you can use something like this solution: http://dotnetmafia.com/blogs/dotnettipoftheday/archive/2010/05/13/wildcard-search-web-part-for-sharepoint-2010.aspx to automatically add wildcard characters.

Hi,
  • CA -->Application Management-->Manage Service Applications.
  • Click on Search Service Application
  • On the left Nav menu, choose and click Federated Locations
  • Click the Search you want to change (like Local Search Results)
  • Look for and expand Location Information
  • In the Query Template section, you will see {searchTerms}
  • Just add an asterisk after it {searchTerms}*
  • If you want, you can also add an asterisk to the end of the More Results Link Template (results.aspx?k={searchTerms}*) or, use whichever page youre using in its place
  • Click the OK button

Hi Jaison,

There is a cmdlet in SharePoint 2010 called New-SPEnterpriseSearchLanguageResourcePhrase, which by looking at the existing LanguageResourcePhrases with Get-SPEnterpriseSearchLanguageResourcePhrase contained a word and an alias for a word, which will allow a Fuzzy Search returning search results based on an alias name. More information, please refer to the link below:

In addition, there is a CodePlex solution for Wildcard Search web part for SharePoint 2010, please take a look at:

http://wildcardsearch2010.codeplex.com/

I hope this helps.

Thanks,

Wendy
