Error after UEFI PXE Windows 7 OSD

Hi Everyone,

After imaging a PC using UEFI PXE I get an error when Windows 7 first tries to boot.  The error is from Windows Boot Manager.

Windows failed to start.  A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.  To fix the problem:

1. Insert your Windows installation disk and restart your computer.

2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."

3. Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

File: \EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD

Status: 0xc000000d

Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I've only experience with Windows 8 and UEFI and that just works, but I have a an idea you can try.

Try to disable secure boot in BIOS (not 100% sure if Windows 7 supports that).

Hi Ronni,

I did read that blog post in the past.  My image is x64, it was built on a machine that was UEFI enabled with Secure Boot turned off and the partitions are laid out correctly.  My target machine is identical to the source with Secure Boot disabled as well.

Thanks,

Prayer

I have seen this error in the past when attempting to PXE boot a non-UEFI system and the thing that resolved it was to boot from USB/DVD into Windows PE and diskpart and re-partition the local disk.  The BCD store/partitioning layout must somehow have become corrupt and this throws PXE out.  After that simple task the problem went away and never seen again.

I know this is old and I'm sure you've gotten it figured out long ago but just wanted to add my resolution to this very issue. I have been trying to image a new Dell Optiplex 9010 AIO with Windows 7 UEFI and ran into this exact issue. Secure Boot off. In the BIOS, I also needed to check Enable Legacy Option ROMs under Advanced Boot options.

thank you for posting this. it cost me literally several weeks to finally solve this issue.

so for everyone who is running into the same Problems on some systems: even if you want to use UEFI only, enable the legacy Rom Option.

Thanks for this! Just experienced the same issue deploying Windows 7 via MDT 2013.

Changing the BIOS settings did the trick!

This does not really address the issue at hand, while enabling  Legacy Option ROMs under Advanced Boot fixes part of the issue, odoes not allow me to boot into windows after disabling it and  trying to use Secure Boot ?

Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise  Dell Optiplex 9030

1.  I am not able to PXE  to UEFI with  Legacy Option ROMs under Advanced Boot options enbabled

2.  I can PXE with UEFI if the option is off the Task Runs  but upon restart I then get the error :

3.  Change the BIOS to Legacy Option ROMs under Advanced Boot options enbabled  the task continues and Finishes

4. Disabled  Legacy Option ROMs under Advanced Boot options enbabled = No Boot

5. Enabled = No Secure Boot

Is there a Solution to getting  a being able to boot  and use Secure Boot
