Error initializing NAP Agent (0x800704df)
Hello All,
I am randomly seeing "Error initializing NAP Agent (0x800704df)." in the SMSSHA.log of our SCCM Advanced Client's.
This is resulting to that the Windows NAP agent reports: "The Statement of Health Response received configuration for the following SHAs that are not installed on
this computer: 79745" in the Network Access Protocol Event Log.
The client is therefore not compliant and the client get's limited network access.
When above error occur in SMSSHA.log it looks like that the SCCM Agent Host service is somehow faulty
regards to SCCM NAP, as the SCCM Client is at that point not able to produce SoH.
The SCCM Client stops writing entries to SMSSHA.log and CCMCCA.log as it seems that the "SCCM NAP Client Agent" part of the client is more or less shutdown inside the SMS Agent Host service.
If I restart "SMS Agent Host", the SCCM Client starts writing entries to SMSSHA.log, CCMCCA.log and the SCCM Client produces it's SoH,
where the client is remediated successfully and the network connection is fully restored.
I have noticed that following HotFix is available:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982203
Hence, we are not seeing the Event Log entries as reported in KB982203 when above initializing error occurs.
Therefore I am wondering if anyone knows if above HotFix resolves this or if anyone has encountered this problem?
Thanks for your great assistance.
Best Regards Anders Horgen

I've not seen this error yet, but why don't you just install that hotfix on an affected client?Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de

Hello Torsten,
Thanks for your assitance.
I just checked the log for this patch, and discovered:
============================ sccm2007ac-sp2-kb982203-x86.msp.log ============================================================
Property(S): SmsDetectDowngrade_ErrorMessage = A newer version of the Configuration Manager Client is already installed
Property(S): SmsDetectColocationDowngrade_ErrorMessage = A newer version of the SMS Management Point is installed. Cannot continue installing this version of the client.
Property(S): SmsMigrateQuarantineUpdateSchema_ActionText = Migrating content download schema.
Property(S): SmsDetectUpgrade_ErrorMessage = An older version of the SMS Management Point is installed. Please upgrade the Management Point before attempting to upgrade the client.
========================================================================================================================
So it seems that I might either have installed another patch that may superseeds it or that it simply won't install due to version conflict with other SCCM patches.
I have included following Client Patches.
sccm2007ac-sp2-kb977203-x86.msp
sccm2007ac-sp2-kb977384-x86-enu.msp
sccm2007ac-sp2-kb978754-x86.msp

Those are just property listings and have nothing to do with an actual error. Search for "return value 3" in the log. The error should be listed a few lines above the occurance.Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de
