In that case, you may need to add DCOM permissions to the SPSearch application for the Search account. Go to Administrative Tools->Component Services. Drill down to My Computer and DCOM Config. Find the SPSearch component, right click and view properties and then Security. In all three categories, click "Customize" and "Edit" and make sure that both accounts have access locally (and remotely to be sure). ----------------------- Which I found at this site http://blogs.vertigo.com/personal/michael/Blog/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=4 and ----------------------- I made the above changes on Win2000 Server, but I did retrace my steps on a Win 20003 server: Run dcomcnfg to bring up Component Services window. Expand Component Services > Computers > My Computer > DCOM Config Scroll down list, right click Windows Management and Instrumentation, and select properties. A 5 tabbed window named Windows Management and Instrumentation Properties should be displayed. Select the Security tab, then select radio buttons which activate the Edit... buttons. Select the appropriate location and add the ASPNET account. Reboot. You should be good to go. ------------------------- Which was located at http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=352850&SiteID=1 But as yet nothing as worked. Hello, Does your problem occur, before or after tipping the name and the user of the configuration database? Regards, Noureddine

Hi Noureddine, Thanks for your reply however I am unsure what you mean by "tipping the name and the user of the configuration database" Perhaps you could calrify this for me -Paul

Hi Paul, I have the same error message on my WSS3 installation. What I think Noureddine means is the 2nd step in the wizard, after clicking "next" on the first page and accepting to restart services during the wizard. The next step would show your server name, database and other settings, but I, get the error on the first page, before tipping the name and user of the database. You too? This occured after getting a Http 1.1 / 404 error calling a domain name mapped to the server. I thought it was something with the configuration so I started the wizard. It usually can fix a lot of problems. Not this time though... //Marcus Update: I found this http://www.openg.info/entry/sharepoint-3-0-access-denied-install and followed the instructions and added the admin in Sharepoint Central Administration and ran the Wizard again. It started and got all the way to creating sample data, where it failed. One problem solved, a new one occured.
