Event ID:21042 in RMS Server
Hi
We are getting Event ID:21042 every 2 minutes in our RMS Server. Please help us to understand more on this error.
Event Type: Information
Event Source: OpsMgr Connector
Event Category: None
Event ID: 21042
Date: 3/24/2011
Time: 1:20:26 PM
User: N/A
Computer: IND-APP142
Description:
Operations Manager has discarded 52 items in management group MG, which came from XXXXX. These items have been discarded because no valid route exists at this time. This can happen when new devices are added to the topology but the complete topology
has not been distributed yet. The discarded items will be regenerated.

Hello
I am getting the same behaviour following the installation on the Microsoft Cluster Services Management Pack i.e. this event is being logged numerous times but only against the Server running Cluster Services. I saw a reply to a blog stating it may be related
to Run As Account distribution to I have re-ditributed my Default Management Server Action Acount to the Server running Cluster Services. I have not rechecked the OpsMgr log since, I will check again today. I was also wondering if I need to turn on a Monitor,
Rule or Discovery (I need to re-read the Cluster MP document).
I would be interested in any replied to this post aswell
Thanks
Ernie

Found on a forum :
The events you listed below are harmless on their own.

The events you listed below are harmless on their own. Due to topology
changes inflight data may need to be removed which will cause event 21042 to
be logged. Event 29106 means that what has been discovered in your
enterprise was changed quickly enough that the configuration service didn't
get a clean read. It should keep trying again until it gets a clean read.
Did you change any configuration in your management group (add/remove
management packs or agents) right before this happened? If you can't track
it down I'd suggest raising this issue with PSS since we shouldn't get into
a bad state like this.

Hello
I am only receiving 21042 following from the Server that are part of my 2003 Microsoft Cluster. Therefore I am thinking it may be related to a Monitor or Rule that I need to either enable or disable or override in some way. I get about 2 of these event each
minute for all the nodes in the cluster.
Due to the number of these events I cannot help but think there must be some thing not setup correctly. I have Agent Proxying turned on, on all the nodes in the Cluster. However I notice when login at Window Computer view in the Monitoring space the Cluster
Applications say Not Monitored, although I do get alerts from cluster resources
Thanks

Hi,
Please try clearing the HealthService queue on the servers where you noticed the “Event ID: 21042”:
1.
Stop System Center Management service.
2.
Go to C:\Program Files\System Center Operations Manger 2007\, and rename the “Health Service State” folder.
3.
Restart System Center Management service.
Meanwhile, please also restart the following services:
System Center Management Configuration service
System Center Data Access service
Hope this helps.
Thanks.

Hi Paul?
Thanks for your reply, can you please tell me what "ETL SCOM traces" are? I am not familiar with this term.
I have loaded the Workflow Analyzer from the Authoring Reource Kit, which is very useful for checking if a rule, monitor or discovery is running on an agent.
I am very interested in any methods to help me troubleshoot issues, sounds like "ETL SCOM traces" my help me do this in the future, can you kindly explain further?
Thanks Paul

Workflow Alalizer does the same ETL traces :) although... not 'does', it just enables trace for a single workflow and then outputs trace into GUI. Look how WA works http://www.computersplace.com/using-workflow-analyzer-remotely/othersoftware
as for ETL trace, look at this article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942864
