External domain to internal Sharepoint sub-site
I am looking for a way to map an external domain such as www.domain.com to and internal sharepoint sub-site such as http://server/sub-site . I have ISA 2004 and SharePoint 2007. I have it all setup and can get to the root sharepoint site no problem. I now want to limit a domain to a sub-site. I have tried using a a path on a web publishing rule, but the sub-site comes up without images and users are stil redirected to the sub-site name. Anyone have any ideas?

Have a look at this SharePoint blog, one of the best articles about Alternate Access Mapping:

Thanks Mart1n0, but AAM only allows a root domain such as www.domain1.com to go to anther root domain such as www.sharepoint.com. I need a root domain such as www.domain1.com to path to www.sharepoint.com/sub-site and continue to be percieved as root domain.
Thanks!

Hi there...I was wondering if you had resolved this at all? Im trying to do the same thing and the only advice ive been given is to look here:http://elczara.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!554EC06D366AC9D5!502.entry?wa=wsignin1.0however I dont think this is what I need as it uses AAM, which as you say only maps to a root domain, not a subsite! Thanks in advance,Jody

It sounds like we're talking more on Vanity URLs. Check out Todd K's blog posting on this topic (http://www.toddklindt.com/blog/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=48) as it may address some of what you're looking for.-M- Michael Mukalian

The blog post (Todd K) is quite old and has not been updated properly, as has been reflected in the comments below it - Some instructions are missing.
The post also does not explain the exact solution to goodes' problem (and currently mine, it only handles a redirect via IIS.
The problem: A site http://www.test.test has to not just redirect but also stay visible as the domain for http://www.anothertest.test/page/subpage/subsubpage/default.aspx, so that the root always shows as http://www.test.test instead of http://www.anothertest.test/page/subpage/subsubpage/
This is possible via a CNAME addition, though that's a rather inelegant solution and does not show anything other than the root domain (making bookmarking pages for example not possible).
I've also found allusions to this being possible via any ISA version, though i have yet to find any concrete instructions for this as most tutorials or guides completely gloss over it with nary a mention.
It should be possible according to my sources to do this using just IIS 6 (server 2003) and AAM (in sp 2007), though i have not found a way for this.
My apoligies for the thread resurrection, but the problem is still there and has not been solved - I wonder if goodes found the solution but has not posted it in this thread.
