FIM Service and Portal install timing out
I am attempting to install the FIM Service and Portal, but it keeps failing on the "deploying solution pack" step and it rolls the install back. Every other part of the FIM install installed correctly and appears to be working well. I installed WSS in standalone and the default sharepoint site seems to be working correctly. This is the error in the event logs: Error - SharePoint did not confirm the deployment of the FIM solution pack MicrosoftILMPortalCommonDlls.wsp within the expected time. This operation may take long time on SharePoint farm. Specify the bigger value for "SHAREPOINTTIMEOUT" parameter. (The default value is 180 seconds) Does anyone have any insight on what the issue may be?

What version of windows? 2008 or 2008R2? What version of WSS 3.0? Sp1, Sp2, Sp3? Can you access the Default SharePoint site? You said it seems to be working. I usually only see this error when that is not the case. So if it working then perhaps, hmm is there enough disk space? I wonder if the Windows Internal Database hosting the WSS databases has enough space on the drive.David Lundell, Get your copy of FIM Best Practices Volume 1 http://blog.ilmbestpractices.com/2010/08/book-is-here-fim-best-practices-volume.html

I am installing it on windows 2008 R2 with WSS 3.0 SP2 I can access the default sharepoint site, but it took some work to get it there. Correct me if I'm wrong, but when you install WSS in standalone the default page should be created automatically for you right? For some reason running Sharepoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard completed successfully, but the default site wasn't immedietly accessible. I fixed it by adding a site collection in sharepoint central administration, which I thought was a step that only needs to be taken if WSS was installed as a farm. Do you think this may have something to do with the issue? Also, I have 300gb left on the on the disk, so space should be a non issue.

There must be some other issue with your SharePoint Site. I recommend deleting your site collection, and re-runing the SPT Config Wizard.David Lundell, Get your copy of FIM Best Practices Volume 1 http://blog.ilmbestpractices.com/2010/08/book-is-here-fim-best-practices-volume.html

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I ran the SPT config wizard again to no avail, but I uninstalled WSS and installed it again as a farm and the installation went through without a hitch. I'm not sure if it was the internal database causing the issue, or if I somehow managed to mess up the standalone install, but it appears to be working fine now in farm mode. Thanks for your time and advice.
