Hi PtheDude, Where did you get the log file? From the SCE server or from any WSUS server? First, please turn off/disable all the hardware and software firewalls installed on the server. Then follow the steps listed in KB929458 closely to troubleshoot it. Error Code 0x80072F8F when searching for available updates on Windows Update and Microsoft Update siteshttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/929458/en-us Note: Besides the dill files KB929458 article mentions, please also register the following dll files as well: regsvr32 Dssenh.dll regsvr32 Rsaenh.dll regsvr32 Gpkcsp.dll regsvr32 Sccbase.dll regsvr32 Slbcsp.dll regsvr32 Cryptdlg.dll Moreover, open Internet Explorer, select Tools and then Internet Options, Advance tab, then unselect 'check for server certificate revocation' after this please reboot system. Does this issue still persist? Thanks and hope this helps. Sincerely,Robbin MengMicrosoft Online Community Support

This issue was not solvable, and I chose to wipe the box instead of calling microsoft.

Hi, Thanks for your response. I understand that you have already uninstalled SCE and I understand that the process of checking each step is time-consuming. All the time and efforts you have invested in this issue are highly appreciated. Next time when it is available for you to install SCE server, please feel free to turn to us for any help if needed. Yes, this is a current problem for me as well. Unfortunately, the laptop that is my test case is newly installed, so simply reinstalling would "probably" result in the same condition. Here is what I've tried: 1. reloaded the WSUS 3.0 client (multiple times, actually) 2. removed / deleted the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder and contents plus the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\ DB files 3. re-registered all the various DLLs 4. verified that system time is correct 5. Installed the DST patch (just in case!) 6. Lots of reboots inbetween Any other ideas? I have a Support Case open now and waiting for a call back. David Anderson ScrippsHealth, San Diego, CA

Hi David, Have you checked and tried the steps listed in the KB945536? This KB article indicates scenario and solution if you import many locally-published, third-party product updates in Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), client computers can no longer synchronize with WSUS. You may refer to the methods which should fix the 0x80072f8f errors. Client computers can no longer synchronize with Windows Server Update Services after you import many third-party product updates http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;945536 Finally, if there is any update from the WindowsUpdate.log, please feel free to post it out. Regards.

I am having this exact same issue. I've uninstalled and reinstalled XP 6 or 7 times now using a service release version and an xp2 version. I have tried everything, every kb article I have seen etc.. No matter what I do, I am unable to use windows update. Tells me the date and time are incorrect and I know it is just fine. I even installed the DLS patch and reregistered everything.. Still no success.

Folks, I have a resolution which may be applicable - I've been getting the same error code in relation to an inability to download updates, and I'm running Vista. I had this issue some weeks ago, and found a post suggesting that it was Kaspersky to blame, (can't remember if it was Kasp Firewall, AV, or some other part of the Kaspersky security suite. Message alsostated that closing down Kaspersky did not work,it had to be uninstalled completely. Itried it, and hey presto, everything worked OK thereafter. Just made the mistake of loading Kaspersky Security Suite again 'cause it's coming top, or near, of many reviews, hoping the issue had been solved, guess what, I have to uninstall again - stupid me. Good luck, hope this helps. Frank

1. Copy certificates fromC:\Program Files\System Center Essentials 2007\Certificates to\\client\c$\Program Files\System Center Operations Manager 2007\Certificates 2. start>run>mmc. Add/remove snappin. Add Certificates. Choose computer certificates for the client computer. Open the certificates to "Trusted Publishers". All Tasks>Import. Add both certificates you just copied. Browse to "3rd Party Root Certificates". All Tasks>Import. Add both certificates you just copied. Close the mmc. 3. On the client Start>run>wuauclt.exe /detectnow4. On the client Start>run>wuauclt.exe /reportnow 5. Refresh SCE console and see if the computer is now reporting.

Hello, i have this issue on every computer i add to SCE 2007 (clients and servers). Do i have to manually add the certificates on every computer or is there a possibility to do that automatically? By the way: The two certshave already been in the folder C:\Program Files\System Center Operations Manager 2007\Certificates i only had to import it to "Trusted Publishers" and "3rd Party Root Certificates". Thank you, Tom

Well it worked till May 22 7pm and magically the certs in 3rd party were removed so it broke again. What is wrong with ms and an os when it makes random changes to your setup. Nice ms thanks for keeping me employed. I wish i could do something more constructive with my time the to keep fixing the same ms problems over and over.

Hi Guys, I had the same problem. I tried to activate the copy of windows 7 and it wasn't haveing it. I run the test posted earlier http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929458/en-us . while it was doing the test i noticed that it went through Clock settings. So i went back and made sure the clock and date was set correctly ( it was set to something like 2006 clearly wrong) and tried the activation and it went through fine. thanks all the best

I just had this same problem with a 2008 server trying to connect to the new SCE2010 server. Adding the certs in program files\system center essentials 2007\certificates into the computers trusted root certs finally did the trick!!! 2 days to get that working, what a pain!
