Get SharePoint to sync with AD
I am having a hard time getting SharePoint to sync with AD. The problem is that a user has been renamed in AD, the account name has not changed. SharePoint is not picking up the change. The content database is online and, I have run the full import for the user profile and properties. I can’t get it to sync. I am using sharepoing 2007. Any idea! Thanks,

Hi, You can delete the user profile from SSP and then you can do a full import. However before doing this I suggest you to make note of all user properties so that you can use them as a backup. I hope this will help you out. Thanks, Rahul Rashu

but the profile is ok, it has all the up to date information in it. and the old user does not exist there. so should I delete the profile? and is there a way to see all the permisions and privilages for this user, so I can give the access to the new profile? thanks,

Hi, There is no direct way you can see all the permissions assigned to a user. However with AdminToolkit you can check the effective permissions of a user at any web. You need to install Admin Toolkit for this. However if you want to migrate permissions of an old id to a new one you can use STSADM migrate user command. Refer this link for details http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262141(office.12).aspx I hope this will help. Thanks, Rahul Rashu

Deleting the profile won't affect the users permissions, they are set against the AD account not the profile so as long as the user is using the same AD account they will keep the same permissions, even if no profile exists for them. If you use audience targetting based on properties in the user profile, they may lose that if they have no profile or a profile without the correct values.
