How do you document custom MPs?
How do you document custom MPs? Rules/Monitors/Overrides etc
I know there is non free MP Studio. This is not an option in my case.
Microsoft MP documentation is quite poor as example.
please, share your experience

Hi PaulD_There is a free version of MP Studio as well. As far as I know this program has the option 'One-click MP documentation'. Other solution is MPViewer to be found here: http://blogs.msdn.com/boris_yanushpolsky/archive/2008/01/31/mpviewer-1-3.aspx.You can read a MP and dump all the info (rules/monitors) into a HTML file.Best regards,

thanks both for reply.
unfortunately mp lite does not support export to excel and Boris' tool create hard readable output.
i wonder why MS did not provide required tool.
without handy MP description we have black/magic box.
Even MS documentaion of their own MPs does not stike me.

HiDepends on the number of servers you have but I findgood old Excel works up to a few hundred servers. One for overrides and one for customisations. Each broken down into worksheets. I try to get customers to do it this way as I find it "forces" them to think about what they are doing. What the target should be andComments about why they are doing this. A large number of issues I find with OpsMgr are administrators trying to do too much too quickly and often without understanding fully the changes they are making (incorrect targeting etc). Headings to include -- operator \ date \ rule (or monitor) \ target class of rule (monitor) \ override field \ old and new value \ target of override \ comments Of course everyones mileage with this approach will vary ..... but I find change management \ process management are important if you want to have an organised OpsMgr deployment.Have funGraham
