How to change Site Collection URL?
I am upgrading/migrating a WSS 2.0 content database over to a WSS 3.0 farm. I can successfully move the content database to the new farm and upgrade it. What I want to do now is to change the url of the site collections. For example:Site Collection URL is http://<server>/apaI want it to be http://<server>/sites/apaThe upgrade automatically put the new site collections at the root level. Thanks,Carolinecaroline

If the site collection is already installed on the WSS3.0 then the easiest way would be to use stsadm to make a full backup of the collection at root, and restore it to the ../sites/ level. Rob Fleming

Hi Caroline,SharePointcreates the "first" site collection in (root) and if you want to make the (root) site collection appear under "sites" then do as Rob suggested.Start with this first:In Central Admin > Application Management > Define Managed PathsFrom here: 1. delete the (root) path with type = explicit inclusion and2. delete the sites path with type = Wildcard inclusion3. add the (root) path with type = implicit inclusion4. add the sites path with type = explicit inslusionNow export, import the site collection:http://www.sharepointforum.com/en-US/Wiki/Forms/DispForm.aspx?ID=7Daniel Bugday

Thanks for the answers.Daniel, I have a question about your answer. What exactly is deleting and adding the managed paths doing? Also, you say to add the root path with type = implicit inclusion. I don't have an option of "implicit inclusion" in the Type drop down list on the Define Managed Paths page. I can only see Wildcard inclusion, andexplicit inclusion.CheersCarolinecaroline

Caroline,i misstyped the word.. there is no implicit inclusion.. Managed paths "tells" SharePoint which paths in the URL namesspace that is used for a site collection of a web application. For example.explicit of Sales indicated that the URL http://server/sales is a site collection, whereas a wildcard path of sites indicated that child URLs of http://server/sites, such as server/sites/team, are site collections.Reference; SharePoint Cetnral admin helpRegardsDaniel Bugday
