How to hide group columns
A column group is added but the column itself is not needed.
If it is hidded via the group properties the whole group dissapears.
If it is hidded via the group properties (visibility) it does not show content but there is still white space. The column width cannot be reduced to 0 so the report is pushed to the right by .117cm minimum.

Hi Rob !
Try hiding with Column Visibility option, click on the column you will be able to see "Column Visibility", you can set hide or hide on the basis of expression by specifying a hidden expression as well.
Please let me know if this helps. Hopefully i have answered you correctly.

Thanks for your comment Hasham,
As mentioned above, this option does hide the column but a white space of .117cm wide remains. The column width cannot be set to smaller than that.
I just realized that there is a dataset field bound to some columns. When they are removed, the column width can be set to .079cm. It's a bit better but the column still keeps a border at the bottom of different text box controls from reaching
the left border around the report.
There are 5 column groups and therefore 5 white spaces on the left hand side of the report.

Hi,
In Reporting Services, minimizing the width of a column/row sets the width to a small value rather than zero. This is by design.
To work around the issue, we can set the border style of the related textboxes. Lets take the following repot as example.
To minimize the left column group and make the tablix cells continuous, please follow the steps below:
Click the Textbox2, from the Report Designer ribbon, set the Textbox 2 to No Border. Then, add the Top Border and Bottom Border for the textbox.
Repeat Step 1 with the Textbox 3.
Set the Textbox1 to No Border, and then add Top Border, Left Border and Bottom Border for it. In other words, set the Textbox1 not to have the right order.
Repeat Step 3 with the Region textbox.
Minimize the width of the second column.

James
