IRM question
Hi, I am an IRM for office user, i would like to know if once a document is protected it could be read (in my case read only protection) online only, meaning no download to target user side. The other way around could be to eliminate all rights for the user after a certain time, but this is more error wise on owner side. In other words, I need to show a document for a limited time (24 hours) only and I do not want to spread the protected document around, even if high encryption protected. I.e., when the document is attached to a mail and sent to user on hotmail.com, the attachment can be "View on line" or "Download", can the latter option eliminated? Can the "View on Line" feature make expired after a certain time? Final question, suppose a document is read only on a user specified desktop, it could be always captured by camera, scanned and OCR'd as a file, do there is any counter measure on this? Thank's all. Teebe

Hi, In order for a user to see an IRM protected document on their device they need an IRM client. If they do not have the client then they cannot open the document. Please review the overview: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2006.10.howitworks.aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd277323.aspx http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917275 For your final question, machines should be secured in a secured location and personnel should be trusted with the data being presented. There should be policies in place where capture devices are prohibited when protected data is being displayed.
