Inbound Mail does not leave drop folder
Greetings,I am using MOSS and Exchange 2007 to configure inbound mail for my SharePoint sites. I have configured this in the past and not had issues, but for some reason I'm having an issue this time.Everything works correctly and I see the .eml message file dropped in the Intepub\mail\drop folder but it never leaves. I thought it might be a rights issue, so I checked by giving 'everyone' full access to the folder (no change). I have stopped and started IIS, and the SMTP service (no change). The Timer service is running and reporting no issues. Looking in the logs, I have found this error, but have been unable to track down a solution that works. There is no Web named "/IT/ITdept/sb/mailtest2/Forms/AllItems.aspx". There is no Web named "/IT/ITdept/sb/mailtest3/Forms/AllItems.aspx". There is no Web named "/IT/ITdept/sb/mailtest4/Forms/AllItems.aspx". There is no Web named "/IT/ITdept/sb/mailtest5/Forms/AllItems.aspx". There is no Web named "/IT/ITdept/sb/Lists/Application Owners/AllItems.aspx". Any ideas? What service should be taking care of the messages in the 'drop' folder? Thanks

I'd suggest increasing the log detail for the E-mail category - Go into Central Administration > Operations > Diagnostic Logging > Event throttling > Select a category: E-mail. Least critical event to report to the trace log: Verbose. Also turn on logging for the SMTP server: IIS 6.0 manager > Right-click on SMTP server > Properties > Enable logging, then go into Properties > Advanced and select all extended properties. (On Windows Server 2008 you need to install ODBC Logging server role in order for SMTP logging to work.)Post your results here, it might help in troubleshooting. BTW, I am getting similar errors on my dev system but the incoming email is working fine.Andre Galitsky, MCTS, Lexington, KY -- My SharePoint Blog: http://www.sharepointnomad.com

Hi Robert, Note that emails generated by SharePoint (alerts or workflow emails) which are sent to SharePoint list or document library will be deleted by timer service from Drop folder. If this is not the issue, ensure that the account used to run the WSS Timer service is at least a Power User on the SharePoint server which is running the SMTP service. This account needs the right permissions to read the IIS metabase in order to find the SMTP drop folder location. If this still doesn't work, try hard-coding the mail drop folder. You can do this in “Central Admin” -> “Operations” -> "Incoming email server settings" and choosing the Advanced option. The mail drop folder option is the last one on the page. I agree with Andre that if you can collect some error messages in ULS log and event viewer, then we may have clue about the cause of the problem. Hope this helps. Lu Zou

Somehow I belive this is a rights issue as well. The farm was setup by "consultants" before I started and there are several different service account and they could not remember all the passwords.. sheesh! I have made sure the timer service has full rights, but this has not made a difference.I amped up the logging and this is what I see.From IIS#Software: Microsoft Internet Information Services 6.0#Version: 1.0#Date: 2009-10-26 19:41:40#Fields: date time c-ip cs-username s-sitename s-computername s-ip s-port cs-method cs-uri-stem cs-uri-query sc-status sc-win32-status sc-bytes cs-bytes time-taken cs-version cs-host cs(User-Agent) cs(Cookie) cs(Referer) 2009-10-26 19:41:40 10.xxx.30.65 mail2.mydomain.com SMTPSVC1 SHAREPOINTAPP02 10.xxx.225.16 0 EHLO - +mail2.mydomain.com 250 0 201 21 0 SMTP - - - -2009-10-26 19:41:40 10.xxx.30.65 mail2.mydomain.com SMTPSVC1 SHAREPOINTAPP02 10.xxx.225.16 0 MAIL - +From:<prvs=8550aafd35=rsieloff@mydomain.com> 250 0 60 57 0 SMTP - - - -2009-10-26 19:41:40 10.xxx.30.65 mail2.mydomain.com SMTPSVC1 SHAREPOINTAPP02 10.xxx.225.16 0 RCPT - +To:<mailtest5@sharepointapp02.RB.local> 250 0 47 44 0 SMTP - - - -2009-10-26 19:41:40 10.xxx.30.65 mail2.mydomain.com SMTPSVC1 SHAREPOINTAPP02 10.xxx.225.16 0 DATA - +<A5E9E04287E3234EADC513B0F8C7CE5240010452@egvex02.RB.local> 250 0 143 9445 78 SMTP - - - -2009-10-26 19:41:40 10.xxx.30.65 mail2.mydomain.com SMTPSVC1 SHAREPOINTAPP02 10.xxx.225.16 0 QUIT - mail2.mydomain.com 240 94 73 4 0 SMTP - - - -FromSharePointlogswithverboseemailloggingTrying to store a checked out item (/IT/PAGES/PREPROD.ASPX) in the object cache.
