Installation / License issue
Client installed the trial version, everything works. They have purchased the Volume license product now, and were told by MS support they will have to uninstall the original and re-install the VL version..Is that true? Lose all the work done in the past
2 months?

That's not true. See the first table in

We had an admin that did the same thing. All you need to is drop in your VL CD and select upgrade. It will step through the install and you will be set. Make sure you are using the same media the installed version just for the sake of lowering
your possible issues.

Installed version is R2, the media is SP2. Any way to stream the media?

Slipstreaming is not possible. There's media incl SP2 available and R2 has to be installed separately.

Ok, I have both ISO, so I am not looking at any issues installing SP2 and than R2 again?

There are no guarantees but it should work without issues. If you are in doubt then force a backup of ConfigMgr before performing the upgrade.

Hi, sorry to hijack but i'm going through the same thing and am currently testing the upgrade from Evaluation to full. I also want to check the other SCCM environments that have been built to make sure they aren't using an evaluation copy too.
I'm hoping the answer is simple, but so far I haven't been able to identify whether or not the SCCM installation that i'm looking at was installed using a full licensed copy, or an evaluation copy.
The Site Properties report the following:
Site Version : 4.00.6487.2000
But that doesn't tell me if it's licensed or not!
Can anyone tell me how I can find out please?
Thanks,
Eddy

To determine if it is a full or evaluation copy, you can check by looking at the value in 'Product Id', under following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\Setup
If it begins with: BB2HG, it's an evaluation version.

Garth,
Thanks for that, been searching the net for ages!
I've found the key, but do you mean BBH2G rather than BB2HG? I'm guessing the answer will be yes, however i'd really like it to be a No (would save me doing an upgrade)

Just went in and tried to ..SETUP /UPGRADE, got "THE COMMAND LINE OPTION IS NOT VALID ON THIS COMPUTER".
So if I trigger a backup, uninstall and reinstall with the same settings, will I e able to restore my collections and settings?
could this be the reason? this is the client's DVD.
