Installing drivers on existing systems
Hello, Im trying to figure out the best way to install drivers to existing XP machines. I have deployed a windows XP machine with sccm2007 and want to add a driver afterwards to the deployed client without reinstalling. I've got a driver with inf, cat and sys file. (acpi bios driver) I've tried with a custom sequence that adds a driver package but it gives me z 0x0000000032 error. Thanks in advance. Best regards, Sander

Search Microsoft for the Driver Installation Framework tools, dpinst.exe makes installing drivers a breeze.

Configuration Manager 2007 doesn't have a mechanism to install updated drivers onto an existing computer that is already running a full operating system, unless the drivers are packaged as .EXE files that can be installed via ConfigMgr Software Distribution. Drivers that only have .INF files cannot be installed with ConfigMgr. We're aware that this is a problematic limitation and are working to remove in it a future release. The task sequence actions for installing drivers only work while running in Windows PE, and only work to inject drivers into a newly deployedoffline OS image that has not yet booted.

Thank you for your reply, with next release do you mean SCCM '2012' or can we expect it in a future servicepack ? best regards, Sander
