hi, I wanted to know about SCOM 2007 R2 licensing. I have to install it on windows server 2008 .And the only purpose to use SCOM is measuring the SharePoint up-time . So do i need to purchase the SCOM 2007 R2 completely or can i go for only the required feature or is any of its feature available free of cost. regards, please let me know soon regards, Dpkas

Hi SCOM list price can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/systemcenter/en/us/operations-manager/om-pricing-licensing.aspx There is no free version or "cut-down \ express" version. You need to buy the full product. "the only purpose to use SCOM is measuring the SharePoint up-time ." - if this is really the case then I'd find another, cheaper product. http://www.idera.com/Products/SharePoint/SharePoint-diagnostic-manager/?s=GW_Adwords_SPDM&gclid=CNXm0tKr4qgCFUdP4Qodvi5vDA The power of OpsMgr is its management packs for monitoing windows \ microsoft based applications. If you are not going to use that at all, then why implement it? What products do you \ your customer use for monitoring windows \ applications at the moment (assuming they don't use SCOM)? Can't they use their existing product for SharePouint uptime. Cheers Graham View OpsMgr tips and tricks at http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/

if you only interested in the sharepoint uptime don't use scom. it would be an enormous overkill. Rob Korving http://jama00.wordpress.com/
