Limited Access in parent objects not working

In my scenario I've a document library with several document sets. I break the role inheritence in the document set and provide individual permissions for users.

The thing is, that no limited access is granted to the parent object (list and web). Does that change in SharPoint 2013? I saw that the method AddToCurrentScopeOnly is new for developers - does SharePoint use that method, too for adding users?

Is there a way how I can change the behavoiur to the old one (like 2010)? Or what is the recommended workaround.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Fidy13,

In SharePoint 2010, it shows the Limited Access permission in the parent scope. For site administrators, it is very hard to manage site permissions because they cannot make sure where the limited users have permissions or not.

In SharePoint 2013, although it doesnt show Limited Access permission in the parent scope, the users who have limited aceess permission can access the specified scope, and when you remove the permission in the specified scope, the limited access is removed. It is convenient to site adminitrators to manage the site. So , I dont recommand you change it.

Here is a similar post for you to take a look at:

I hope this helps.

Thanks,

Wendy

Hi Wendy,

thanks a lot for your replay.

If there is no way to change that behavoir to the old one, I've to tell the customer that there has been a change to SharePoint. I think the Administrator would be happy :)

So I'll provide access to the web and library to everyone and just people with special permissions on document sets can see the content of the library. The bad way of doing it that way is, that every user can see all content, which is not necessary.

So, how can users now navigate through SharePoint when the have just access to a special folder or library and when the user do not have a link to the destination?

Fidy

Hi Fidy13,

When you grant permissions to users in document sets, you can select 'Send an Email invitation' option, like the screenshot. Then the users will recevie the email containing the link of the document set, then they can access the document set using the link.

Hi Wendy,

thanks for your answer. I know that this is possible, but I need the old SP behavoiur of SP 2010. The users need to navigate through the content of sharepoint - they do no need just the link!

If you have a look to this link http://technet.microsoft.com/library/dn169567 you'll see that the behavoiur for SP2013 is described how I would like to use it. The images show for example that AD Group X is getting limitted access in the parent scope.

How can I do that?

Thanks and regards,
Fidy

Hi Fidy13,

You can enable Tree View on your site, then all contents will display in the tree view on the left panel. All users can view the tree view, if users don't have right to some content, when they click these content, it will not display items.

You can enable Tree View as Settings->Site settings-> Tree View under Look and Feel. Note that you need to have site administratior permission on the site.

Thanks,

Wendy
