MOSS down after WSS SP2 and MOSS SP2
Hello, I have upgraded farms with one MOSS 2007 SP1 server and one SQL Server (2005 or 2008)to MOSS 2007 SP2 at several customers without problem. Yesterday I had to upgrade a similar farm at another customer, andran into a big problem. First I upgradedto WSS 3.0 SP2 successfully and ran Configuration Wizard that stopped in phase 8 of 9 (I realize now that I didn't have to run this at that moment). Had to kill the process, and after some googling, testingand cleaning I decided to continue without running the wizard. So I upgraded toMOSS 2007 SP2 successfully and ran the wizard which also stopped in phase 8 of 9. Now I've been googling for 24 hours and tried a lot without solving the problem. In EventViewer I find EventID 5617 regarding 2 of the content databases saying "Schema version (3.1.3.0) of database WSS_Content_<port> on <server-name> is notconsistent with the expected database schema version (3.1.8.0)". On Google I found theese 2 commands solving this problem, but they can't finish either:
\BIN> stsadm -o upgrade inplace -forceupgrade -url http://companyweb
\BIN> psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait force
May anyone please help?Thanks, Trond

I think I've already been throug this KB article, but thanks anyway. Here is from thelog last time I ran the STSADM command above (han had to kill it after 2 hours). It looks like it's ends inthe same "loop" (repeating the same) both when running STSADM and PSCONFIG (command or gui):Timestamp Process TID Area CategoryEventIDLevel Message Correlation05/21/2009 21:15:57.21 Microsoft.Office.Server.Convers (0x0528)0x05E4Document Conversions Load Balancer Service 7jhfMedium RegisterLauncher called with uri http://NEAS-SP:8082/HtmlTrLauncher 05/21/2009 21:16:27.93 mssearch.exe (0x1490) 0x1578Search Server Common GatherSvc 0MonitorableTraceHealthStatus application 'f24afc47-aba3-4f5b-a55b-a451d7a1f8d5': 9691 seconds since last status request from timer service; I'm experiencing the same problem...I have tried pretty much all the fixes I have found and still not working. I get the following error in the Event Viewer:
The schema version (3.0.149.0) of the database WSS_Content_cf5242cfb1e143c2b27d9ae65e198e1c on SQLServer is not consistent with the expected database schema version (3.1.8.0) on WebServer. Connections to this database from this server have been blocked to avoid data loss. Upgrade the web front end or the content database to ensure that these versions match.I have been searching all over the net for the last 15 hours and nothing. Please let me know if you find a solution and I will let you know if I find one.

Disconnect the dbs from the WebApp using the stsadm -o deletecontentdbs, then complete the upgrade by runningpsconfig cmd upgrade inplace b2b -wait. if you need to list the dbs first run stsadm -o enumcontentdbs... Once the the Uprade is complete reattach the DBs using stsadm -o addcontentdbs andthe dbs will be upgraded to the new schema...Hope this helps please ping back abd et us know so that we can continue to help...-IvanNote: the stsadm comand deletecontentdbs only removes the db from the WebApp...

Do you have GroupBoard Workspace Template installed? If yes then your problem is similiar to the one blogged here. (although it was after SP1). May be it wasn't fixed even with SP2.http://www.sharepointblogs.com/wsspectacular/archive/2009/04/17/when-sharepoint-pukes.aspxIt has been resolved by uninstalling the same. See if it helps.

I was able to get my working.Issue seemed to have been in the config db. Run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard and remove the config db from the farm. Use the command "psconfig -cmd configdb -create -server dbserver -database configdb -user domain\user -password xxxxxxxxx" to create a new database. Run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard again and attach the new config db.You will need to redo your original configs which include to pointing to the original content db. This will get you back ontrack.P.S. Use the Central Administration tools and document all your configs prior to removing the config db from the farm....it's much eariler when it comes to for you to recreate your configs. You might also have to edit the registry at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\12.0\WSS\SetupTypeBackup"="CLEAN_INSTALL" for you to be able to remove the config db from the farm.

Which I had seen this earlier so Iwouldn't have to go through the pain of recreating all my configs again. I will keep that in mind though....makes sense.

Yes I do have GBC template installed, so how to fix the "Server error: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkID=96177 " error after WSS 3.0 SP2 upgrade ?
I also tried to run the following tools:
STSADM.EXE -o upgrade -inplace -forceupgrade -url http://mySite for each web application, then
psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait -force
to no avail a well :-(

I disconnected the databases by using the deletecontentdb command and finished the upgrade, after that when I tried to run the addcontentdb command I received the following error:

dm -o addcontentdb -url <http://sharepointsite> -databasename <sharepointdatabase>
<sharepointdatabase> on <dbserver> contains user-defined schema. Databases must be e
mpty before they can be used. Delete all of the tables, stored procedures and o
ther objects or use a different database.
