MSCE first sync downloaded updates from 2003
I have just installed Systems Center Essentials 2007 SP1 and Synced it for the first time to download updates from Microsoft updates site, however it has downloaded 3163 updates going back to year 2003, why would it do this and is there anyway of preventing this? i was expecting only the last 6 months or something? Also it has filled up the hard disk with over 27GB of update packages, how can i clear out old update packages which are not required? Cheers for your help Steve

Hi,For the first sychronization, SCE will download all available update locally and we cannot choose a sepecfied period. For size concerned, you can run WSUS cleanup wizard in WSUS console to remove aged updates.HTH.Jie-Feng Ren - MSFT

Hi,When installing SCE server, WSUS is also installed on SCE server. By default, WSUS server will be configured listening on 8530, SSL 8531. You can find WSUS server console on programs->adminitrative tools.HTH.Jie-Feng Ren - MSFT

Hi, thanks for your reply, I have tried using port 8530 and 8531 aswell now and it still errors saying "cannot connect to 'MTS-MSCE-VM-01'. The Server may be using another port or different Secure Sockets Layer Setting." I can succesfully telnet to the server form another machine on the network using both ports 8530 and 8531 so I know the ports are open and nothing is blocking them, I have tried using FQDN adn IP address incase there was any dns type issues. I also read you are meant to be able ot access the admin console via the web browser, but when i try to browse to http://mts-msce-vm-01:8530/WSUSAdmin/ I get a http 404 - not found error any ideas? cheers

Hi,Do you need you use remote console to connect WSUS server? Check if you can browser http://<SCEserver>:8530/SimpleAuthWebService/simpleauth.asmx correctly from the remote console. Also, if any third party anti-virus/firewall, disable temporarily for test to see if it works. Alternatively, You can perform this task on SCE server itself to open WSUS console.
