i am unable to edit managed metadata columns in the DataSheetView, i have other columns which are number, text field type which i am able to edit. So the view is not readonly, it is only when i click cell with the managed metadata column i get the readyonly prompt. I don't believe you can edit managed metadata columns in the datasheet view, but I think you should be able to use inline editing. -Brian

Well in an inline editing, if you do a mass upload, you cannot drag copy and fill metadata(like excel) and i dont want the users to touch each and every file(in this case be 5000 files), so inline editing is not a option. Just read a recent blog posting about the managed metadata columns not being visible to some users. There might be some helpful info in that post. I'm wondering if you might have to adjust permissions on this hidden list as well to allow users to modify the managed metadata. In Central Admin, have you given permissions for the users to edit the TaxonomyHiddenList? I'm wondering if making these adjustments might allow editing in a datasheet view for the managed metadata? -Brian

Thanks for the reply again!!! Did check the blog and went and checked the permission and they were all set correctly the NTAuthority has read permission and create and edit permission on the terms. I tried loging in with the farm account and tried it still not helpful. I dont see a use of managed metadata column, since you cant edit in datasheet view, you cant edit it in MSoffice 2007 products and i kinda have a feeling that Sharepoint 2010 is really a half baked product. What is strange, is i have one document library where i can edit the managed metadata column in Datasheet view, but all the new document libraries i create or all the new term sets i create are read only in the data sheet view. I think it looks promising, but is geared more towards administrators updating the terms (rather than users via a datasheet view). I've read where you can edit the terms (in Excel for example), save the file as a .csv and import the taxonomy as an import file. -Brian

I have the same problem. I cannot use data that already exists in a term set when turning the list into datasheet view. I just see the (crypted) Term String but can't edit it. That's really frustrating. Are there any news concerning this?

Just another example when the Datasheet View is useless... Same thing if you want to change the Content Type...

Hi Kartik, Did you ever get a resolution to using Datasheet View to bulk fill fields with Managed Metadata? I am doing some work with a client who has recently implemented SP 2010 and where some users are needing to migrate hundreds of documents from legacy systems. If Datasheet View were able to populate Managed Metadata field it would save them masses of time. Cheers - Gabriel

Hi We had exactly the same issue, which was solved by installing this free batch edit solution from codeplex. You can select multiple files and use the batch edit button from the ribbon to update your managed metadata fields http://sp2010batchedit.codeplex.com/releases/view/66629 Cheers - Andy
