Monitoring Service Depolyment Scenarios

Hi everyone,

The Service:
If using dfsr as a method of replicating backup data to an offsite DR location was chosen and you wanted to measure a number of scenarios, where do you start?

The Measuring:
Which counters are the most relevant to watch?

The Details:
Each target server has the same disk, volume, folder and share configuration. The chosen replicated folder is parent to approx. 10 subfolders that store large files up to and including 4GB in size.

The Question:
My question; is best to replicate the one larger parent folder containing all subfolders? Or could there be some benefit of replicating each child folder individually?

What would I use to measure the two different scenarios?

Is there a formula to use or a wealth of knowledge available on performance counters that will allow me to work out the best counters for this and benefit in other future service deployment scenarios?

I look forward to learning :-)

Would this question be better suited somewhere else?

Also, with dfsr, would it be better to have smaller than 4GB files to replicate? Or larger?
