New sharepoint install is not coming up
Sharepoint 2007 sp2 and SQL 2005
I can bring up the Central Admin, and Sharepoint service. I could setup the properties.
I created the web applicationon a link like
http://something.something.com , created a site collection.
I could access my site.
but, I can't see the desired internal site
http://something.something.com .
What am i mssing?

did you check, your URL in NSlookup if it exist?
at which port you configured your site? are you able to access the site using you the http://servername:portnumber?
is their any error in the ULS logs or Event Viwer?

Hi,
Please have a try to access the site using the
http://servername:portnumber. I think you can check the following to resolve the problem:
1.
Check the user permission being used to create the new site and application pool. That user must have permission on SQL Server.
2.
Try to create a new web application on a different port, like 4004 (an unique port). Then create a site collection. after this, you can check from IIS Web Sites that a
new web site is created with the given name of the web application which is using port 4004.
Now run the URL:
http://servername:4004, it should show the site you just created provided the WSS is installed correctly and IIS setting is ok. Otherwise you need to reinstall SharePoint.

Thank you all for reply.
I could make bring it up with the port number. But , I can't make it to work with the desired url after setting up the alternate mapping in Intranet zone.

The URL was not registered in DNS.
