Notification Server?
Hello, I have one RMS and several MSs. In the definition of Notifications Channels which server do i choose for the link inside the email notification? RMS? MS? By default it is: "$Target/Property[Type="Notification!Microsoft.SystemCenter.AlertNotificationSubscriptionServer"]/WebConsoleUrl$?DisplayMode=Pivot&AlertID=$UrlEncodeData/Context/DataItem/AlertId$" but for some specific alerts it was set to: "$Target/Property[Type=http://opmgrms1.ad:51908/default.aspx?DisplayMode=Pivot&AlertID=$UrlEncodeData/Context/DataItem/AlertId$" but it does not work I have an error: Unexpected error: There was an error displaying the page requested.Try the following: - Restart the web browser - Refresh the page If you are still not able to view the requested page, try contacting your administrator or Helpdesk. I did all but it failed. Am I force to have all subcribers to connect through the web page to the RMS? Copuld I split the load between RMS and MS? Hi Dom, Well you have to check where you installed the web console. You cant just connect clients to any machine. Only the one with the web console installed on it for this link to work. So you should use the default setting. It gets replaced why whatever should be correct :-) Check in the scom console - administration - settings - web addresses You will see what it is pointing to. By the way, I always change the default settings from the netbios machine name to the dns fqdn machine name. Sometimes this works better for more remote clients. What is listed over there gets replaced into the alert url in your email alerts, with of course the rest of the string thats unique for the view it points to.Bob Cornelissen - BICTT (My BICTT Blog)

Seems that maybe someone altered the notifications on some alerts and or the alert detail data on the rule/monitor itself. Organize these alerts (with the different data), then use the authoring console to find the monitors/rules to see if that is the case. Also check all of your notifications details to see where the difference maybe.Regards, Blake Email: mengotto<at>hotmail.com Blog: http://discussitnow.wordpress.com/

Bob Cornelissen - BICTT (My BICTT Blog) Hi Bob, If the name is unique it could be an issue as for now the setting is on the RMS itself. It it good or it is best practice to have a dedicated server or one MS to do this function? I have the FQDN in the box. But anyway this means we have only unique Notification Server to be able to deliver the alerts, am I correct? Hello Dom, the best practise depends on the size of the environment and how busy the machines are. You could take the web console off the machine and place it somewhere else.. perhaps on the machine you installed the sql report services on as well (it is a webserver already). In larger environments I take the sql reporting services role on a separate machine and in some cases install the scom web console component on that one too. Keep in mind that a good part of the strain will stay on the RMS because the web console will connect to the SDK on the RMS to talk to. whatever you do you will have to find the ones that have a customized entry like you described and change those to reflect the original webconsoleurl$ thing. That should translate to whatever is in the settings of your scom console. Also if you decide to move it to another machine and you check that setting again everything should be fine. Also make sure to check the alert channels if they do not have that custom code in it. The notification server would be the machine sending out alerts through email or script or whatever and that machine is always the RMS. Only the RMS sends out alerts through the subscriptions you create.Bob Cornelissen - BICTT (My BICTT Blog)
